The General Manager will provide strategic leadership to achieve operational excellence through all aspects of our people, financial, operation and processes to enable the efficient and cost-effective storage, processing and onward movement of merchandise.

Leadership

  • Provide leadership and coaching for the operations team and identify and mentor future successors.

People

  • Develop a culture of employee involvement such that the employees are fully engaged with the goals and ambitions of the company.
  • Encourage and support the leadership team to improve their capabilities to deliver high performing teams.
  • Influence the implementation of personal development and training plans for all colleagues to ensure technical competency of each individual.
  • Champion the importance of utilising appropriate behaviours that are aligned to our Hands On approach, ensuring focus on the 'How' and 'Why' as well as the 'What'.

Customer

  • Build and develop customer relationships, listening and engaging with the contract and account management teams.
  • Partner with peers and other key contacts throughout Distribution, Transport, Supply, Sales, Finance, Customer Services and Customers, to ensure the successful flow of merchandise and resolving issues that may hinder the departments achieving planned targets.
  • Build solid relationships with Supply, Sales and Marketing, Digital teams to ensure active awareness of forthcoming events, opportunities and initiatives.
  • Builds Company image by collaborating with Customers, community organisations and employees, enforcing ethical business practises.

Operational

  • Influence the creation and timely delivery of a site annual operating plan that is aligned to our company objectives, ensuring a consistent message is cascaded to all colleagues.
  • Influence the creation of an annual site development plan.
  • Full financial responsibility for the site.
  • Manage all site performance, making sure the operation runs effective and efficiently.
  • Promote and implement a continuous improvement programme, to make sure service levels maintain a competitive advantage in the market place.
  • Ensure the on-going critical review of processes, equipment and establish a best practice approach to operational excellence.
  • Establish the most productive, efficient team dynamics that continue an excellent working environment that provides security, consistency and reliability.
  • Establish a proactive site management structure that can maximise the collective effort necessary to ensure business targets are met cost-effectively, within deadlines and quality parameters

Health & Safety

  • Responsible for minimising risk on DC by ensuring compliance with Health & Safety at Work Regulations and Company Policy & Procedures.
  • Make sure all equipment and building are compliant with health and safety and legal requirements.

Key Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Managerial, commercial and Health & Safety experience within a similar size manufacturing, processing or distribution environment
  • Experience of operating at strategic level, managing multiple processes to the appropriate level of detail
  • Coaching and people development.
  • Ability to interpret data and effectively apply outcome to the needs of the business
  • Knowledge of team dynamics and the effects of a positive working environment
  • Experience of working within set budgetary and performance targeted workplace
  • Ability to translate business plan into operation plan, establish results measurement, allocating/reallocating resources, review progress and make mid-course corrections.
  • Able to clearly communicate at all levels, both verbal and written
  • Ambitious, adaptable and self aware
  • Ability to make decisions based on evaluation of risks and available information.
  • Proven ability to influence teams and senior managers to effect change.
  • Demonstrates resilience and tenacity when faced with obstacles
  • Project management skills.
  • Excellent computer literacy.
  • Self motivated with an ability to inspire and motivate their team and peers to deliver results.
