Ultimately, all the businesses which make up London Stock Exchange Group depend on technology that is secure, stable and performs to high levels of availability and throughput. A rotation on the technological stream of our graduate programme could therefore take you to any number of places.

As a graduate, you will undertake two six-month technical rotations in different areas of our Group. This not only means more variety, but also the chance to gain a clear understanding of LSEG and to broaden your commercial awareness and skillset.

Within the LCH business alone, for example, you might be part of a team looking after business and shared-service technology. Equally, you could be involved in working on projects and the implementation of significant change.

Elsewhere, you could be overseeing modifications to our Millennium Exchange platform, which is configured to trade any product in any type of market, or the innovative Turquoise Equity – designed for secondary trading. Our experience and expertise in this area is unrivalled and the technology plays an important part in business development, as our knowledge is much sought-after in other markets around the world.

Very often, our technology teams within the Group are responding to the demands of a regulatory environment. They are also busy ensuring seamless integration across our businesses and, of course, enhancing our products and services in a way that drives customer satisfaction and revenue.

Who succeeds in Technology?

We’re interested in hearing from graduates from a range of degree disciplines. While it’s true that people who have studied Computer Science can be particularly well suited to the Technology programme at London Stock Exchange Group, we look for a mix of backgrounds (eg Mathematics, Science and Engineering) and are actually more interested in your aptitude, analytical ability and judgement. Some roles are more focused on operations, while others require harder technology skills. Either way, however, you’ll find that softer skills – such as the ability to work as a team and negotiate effectively – will come into play.

You’ll be fully integrated into the team from the day you start and will be expected to deliver on time, on budget and on requirement, alongside your more experienced colleagues. We will, of course, ensure you get a full grounding in the working of the markets and the opportunity to study for relevant professional qualifications, although if you already have an understanding of global financial markets specifically, that’s clearly an advantage.

Now that our graduate programme runs right across the Group, it’s a particular exciting time to join us. Our markets are truly global, while our office locations span the US, UK, Europe and extend east to Sri Lanka and Australia.

Whether you’re working day-to-day to ensure the market is always functioning at peak efficiency or you’re involved in a longer-term project, you’ll find there’s always plenty to stimulate and challenge you. We’ll look at you as an individual and give you the support to take your career in the direction you want it to go. So if you want to focus on projects or are more attracted by business analysis or systems, there will be a wealth of options for you to consider

It’s important to us that all our technologists really understand the needs of our business, so if you join our Technology programme, there will be a clear technology focus to two of your rotations and your third rotation will be in a business area, giving you the opportunity to understand business IT problems first hand and develop your commercial awareness.

Support on offer from the day you arrive

We’ll provide you with a ‘buddy’ when you first arrive – someone who’s been through the graduate scheme themselves, who’ll be able to provide you with useful pointers and practical advice. You’ll also benefit from a more senior mentor, who’s independent of your direct reporting line and able to offer advice on your career, networking, building relationships and navigating the firm. The way in which you manage the relationship with your mentor is a matter of negotiation and will depend on your needs, ambitions and commitments.

Rewards and benefits

As a graduate, you’ll give a great deal to the LSEG business and, in return, we ensure that you’re properly rewarded.

Of course, not all the benefits of working here are measured in financial terms. We can offer excellent levels of support, first-class learning and development and the satisfaction that comes from helping to shape the future of world markets. Our graduates often comment on the good balance they’re able to achieve between work and their life outside.

At the same time, however, we believe in paying competitive salaries and offer a range of other attractive benefits, including:

  • A discretionary bonus scheme
  • Competitive pension
  • 25 days’ holiday
  • Optional Corporate gym membership
  • Private medical insurance
  • Season-ticket loan
  • Share Save Scheme

Learning & development

We offer an intensive induction programme which will provide you with a deeper insight to our business, as well as equipping you with the specific skills you'll need to hit the ground running.

Whether you have joined the technology or business programme you'll receive a bespoke series of technical and soft skills trainings that are designed to give you the best possible start to your career.

Once you’re under way with the programme, you’ll be supported to achieve a relevant professional qualification. We also provide a tailored suite of graduate development workshops in areas such as project management, influencing and persuasion. It may be that you’ll identify specific learning and development opportunities that are particularly relevant to your own career route. If so, we’re always happy to discuss them.

You’ll meet with our graduate development team and look at any skills gap that you might have. We’ll try to find an effective solution, whether it’s pairing you up with a particular mentor, taking on a project outside your main rotation, participation in online e-learning or perhaps attending a workshop. Your manager and mentor will give you informal advice, which will support our rigorous performance management process.

Each rotation will be reviewed at both the mid-point and end-point. The aim is to prepare you for a wide variety of stimulating roles within the business at the end of the graduate programme.

Graduate programme requirements

We are interested in recruiting people who understand the full breadth of our business, how it fits together, how it functions – and are interested in its development as it grows and diversifies.

To be successful on the programme, you will need to be a talented and highly motivated individual who shares our values and passion for success and growth. To adapt to changing demands, you’ll need strong intellectual capability, a fluid communication style, plus the gravitas to establish good working relationships and influence key stakeholders. It is also important for you to be driven and resilient to see projects through to successful completion. You will stand out to us if you can demonstrate that you recognise that what you achieve is equally important to how you achieve it.

Our minimum academic requirements are:

  • A 2:1 honours degree, for Business we accept any discipline, for Technology we are looking for science, technology, engineering or mathematics

There are many intelligent graduates, we are looking for the things that set you apart. Perhaps you’ve been involved in extra-curricular activities, for instance, excelled in sport or demonstrated leadership qualities? Your background isn’t important, but your attitude is. We like people who are motivated and can demonstrate a strong work ethic. You’ll be interested in our business, curious and – where necessary – willing to challenge the status quo.

Our application process

  1. Initial application - apply online with your personal details, work experience and academic history. You will also be asked to complete a motivational statement covering why you are applying and what skills you can bring to our business
  2. Online testing - if you pass the initial screen, you'll be invited to complete our online reasoning test. We encourage you to practice ahead of completing them
  3. Telephone interview – this is an opportunity to learn more about our programme and share your experiences. We will be focused on understanding your ability in relation to our key competencies, but we will also be interested in learning more about your interest in London Stock Exchange Group.
  4. Assessment centre – includes a variety of exercises including group work, presentation, analytical case study, ability tests and interview. You will meet with a number of managers and graduates throughout the day and it’s a great opportunity to learn about their careers and experiences. At the end of this day we want you to be clear about whether or not you would accept an offer to join our programme.
