Chapter Lead - Analytics Engineering (AI)

ABN AMRO is seeking a Chapter Lead - Analytics Engineering (AI) to join the IT value cluster Customer Data Solutions and lead the AI initiative. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about working at the cutting edge of financial services technology, developing Gen AI and Agentic AI applications to meet evolving business needs.

As Chapter Lead, you will work closely with Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Product Owners and Platform Engineers while leading the team. The role combines strong technical expertise in AI and machine learning, system design, and coding with strong business support.

Your job

As a Chapter Lead - Analytics Engineering, part of your time (40%) will be focused on mentoring and supporting team members, fostering their professional growth and creating a culture of innovation and development. In the remainder of your time (60%), you will work as Senior AI Engineer and be responsible for developing and reviewing future-proof AI solutions.

You will collaborate closely with Data Scientists, IT engineers, Product Owners and architects to design and implement Gen AI and Agentic AI applications. Your role will involve contributing to the delivery of AI-powered APIs and internal applications that drive measurable improvements in data quality, customer operations, and efficiency. You’ll build reliable AI features (LLM/RAG, Agentic, document processing) with strong grounding, evaluation, and guardrails, shipped securely and compliantly on Azure and Databricks.

Your main activities:

• Mentor and guide Chapter members in mastering technical craftsmanship.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership, including conducting code and design reviews, shaping testing strategies, and ensuring successful delivery of AI solutions.
• Embed security and compliance by design, ensuring adherence to IT guardrails and compliance with ABN AMRO’s regulatory framework.
• Collaborate with the Product Owner, Data Scientist, Business Analyst, and Architect to develop and execute the department’s AI strategy.
• Actively contribute to knowledge sharing by participating in triangles, circles, communities, and industry events.
• On a strategic level, ensure that everything continues to work flawlessly, mentor your team, execute and experiment with technical assessments, conduct interviews, and ensure that new employees are properly onboarded.
• Drive operational readiness by managing monitoring, alerts, cost visibility, capacity planning, compliance adherence, and guardrail implementation.
• Take care of HR processes relating to the influx, development, performance and outflux of employees, while remaining flexible and willing to continue learning and developing.

Working environment

You will be working within the IT Value cluster Customer Data Solutions. The atmosphere within the team and department is open and informal.

You will work in a team with many different nationalities and a good junior-senior ratio. You will be part of a DevOps block consisting of 6–8 members and be responsible for leading and delivering cutting-edge AI solutions. Team members are encouraged to experiment with new ideas that support the goal of robustly productionizing AI within a highly regulated environment. The department values a pragmatic but professional approach to technology and effective teamwork, supported by a transparent and iterative working methodology based on modern DevOps practices.

What we are looking for:

• 7–10+ years in software, data engineering or AI; 3+ years in a leading role.
• Excellent communication with stakeholders and effective leadership of distributed teams (onshore/offshore).
• An innovative, whatever-it-takes mindset, with a proactive approach to generating ideas and showcasing them through proof-of-concepts.
• Proven delivery of AI-enabled or web applications: LLM/RAG, embeddings, OCR, with evaluation and guardrails, or full-stack web applications (front-end, back-end, cloud infrastructure).
• Expertise in Azure and Databricks services, including Docker, Python, Kubernetes, Vue.js, SQL, API Management, and Bicep, or equivalent cloud technologies.
• Familiarity with event-driven architecture and data quality practices spanning both batch and streaming processes.
• Security and compliance literacy in regulated environments (GDPR, secrets, encryption, RBAC, audit).
• Experience with data management and data governance is a plus.
• English fluency; Dutch understanding is a strong plus.
