Maak impact op de energietransitie bij TenneT – Join our team as a Sub Project Lead for Commissioning HVDC Primary Systems
At TenneT, we work every day on tomorrow’s electricity grid. Our goal? A reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy system. As a Sub Project Lead Commissioning HVDC Primary Systems in the Engineering Services team, you play a key role in realizing our 2GW programme — connecting offshore wind energy to the Dutch electricity grid. Ready to make an impact?
About the Role
As a Sub Project Lead for Commissioning HVDC Primary Systems, you are responsible for leading and coordinating the commissioning activities of high voltage direct current (HVDC) primary systems. You will manage site activities related to primary installations during the construction phase of the 2GW Land Station in Borssele, ensuring all technical systems meet contractual, quality, and safety standards. You will work closely with engineering, construction, and project management teams to ensure successful project delivery, and drive smooth coordination between engineering, contractors, and commissioning teams.
How will you help power the Netherlands?
- Commissioning leadership – Oversee and lead the commissioning of HVDC primary systems, including transformers, converter reactors, harmonic filters, GIS, AIS, converter valves, instrument transformers, bushings, and terminations, ensuring all activities are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to plan and execute commissioning activities.
- Technical oversight – Participate in design reviews, witness factory acceptance tests (FATs), and monitor compliance during manufacturing and installation.
- Develop and review commissioning procedures, schedules, and documentation.
- Supervise and support commissioning engineers and technicians on site.
- Identify and resolve technical issues during commissioning.
- Quality and progress control – Review technical documentation, monitor site activities, and ensure testing procedures and records (ITPs/ITRs) meet TenneT standards.
- Safety and compliance – Safeguard SHE (Safety, Health, Environment) compliance and ensure robust contractor performance on-site, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, regulations, and quality requirements.
- Reporting and handover – Prepare and present progress reports, technical evaluations, and lessons learned, and support the handover of commissioned systems.
You will work closely with the Sub Project Lead Primary from the core HVDC team and report hierarchically to the Lead Integration and Commissioning within the Engineering & Services department. Functionally, you report to the Sub Project Lead HVDC Land Stations and the Commissioning Manager. This role is based in Arnhem, with frequent presence required at the Borssele Land Station during the commissioning phase.
What do you bring?
- Technical expertise: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or comparable), with advanced experience in high-voltage installations and proven experience in commissioning HVDC or high voltage systems.
- Practical leadership: Strong leadership, coordination, and communication skills to guide on-site activities and technical discussions, and to supervise and support teams.
- Analytical mindset: Structured, detail-oriented, and able to translate complex technical issues into clear actions, with excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Collaboration and initiative: Independent, proactive, and confident in working across disciplines and stakeholder groups.
- Effective communication skills in Dutch and English, both written and spoken.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Willingness to travel between Arnhem and Borssele and flexibility to be on-site during critical phases.
