Two year postdoctoral position studying how cell specific isoforms contribute to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The work will combine advanced bioinformatics with single cell long read RNAseq of patient tissue plus additional omics datasets.
Dit ga je doen
You will focus on analysing single cell long read RNAseq data generated by our team. Your work will involve discovering cell specific isoforms and relating them to pathological signatures and genetic risk factors in ALS patient tissue. You will apply supervised and unsupervised machine learning methods using a local high performance computing cluster. Collaboration is key: you will work closely with experts in ALS, bioinformatics, neuroscience, and RNA biology. Additionally, you will support the supervision of more junior researchers and students.
Hier ga je werken
You will be based in the department of translational neuroscience at the UMC Utrecht, and will also be a member of the Dutch ALS research center and the Utrecht Bioinformatics Center.
Dit neem je mee
You have a PhD in bioinformatics, genomics, or neuroscience with at least one first author publication. You are ambitious, possess strong communication skills, and are an effective presenter and scientific writer. You are proactive, enjoy taking a leading role in your work, and can envision providing mentorship to junior researchers and students. You are able to work both independently and as part of a team. You have experience in advanced bioinformatic analyses of omics datasets, preferably single cell and/or long read RNAseq data.
Demonstrable experience in advanced machine learning and/or high performance computing is an advantage. Prior laboratory experience in genomics or tissue analyses is an advantage but not required (e.g. NGS library preparations, tissue sectioning, qPCR, smFISH).
For further details, please contact the project supervisor Dr Kevin Kenna (K.P.Kenna@umcutrecht.nl).
Dit bieden we jou
Het UMC Utrecht wil bijdragen aan een gezond leven en een gezonde maatschappij, ook voor de generaties na ons. Daarvoor is veel kennis nodig. Als academisch ziekenhuis doen we wetenschappelijk onderzoek naar verschillende ziekten en de werking van onze genen.
