Job description

You will play a key role in co-leading the research activities of the project and contribute significantly to the supervision of several bachelor, master and PhD students. Your work is expected to lead to conference presentations, peer-reviewed journal articles, open-source software, international patent applications and eventually in clinical products.

What do we need

We are looking for:

  • A creative and passionate researcher with a PhD degree in Physics, Medical Physics, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computational Engineering.
  • Excellent communication skills (in English), passion in using AI and an innovative mindset are essential.
  • Excellent knowledge of Monte Carlo simulations using Geant4 is a big advantage.
  • Mastery of C++ and python will be considered.
  • Ability to perform experiments will be considered a plus.

The UMCG has a preventive Hepatitis B policy. If required for the position, the UMCG can provide the vaccination.

What do we offer

We offer one (or potentially two, pending on formal arrangements) research position(s) to join an enthusiastic team of experts. The fulltime (36 hours/week) contract(s) will be for two years with starting date not later than the 1st of April 2026. Your indicative starting salary (36 hours/week) is minimum of € 4.313,- and maximum of € 4.818,- (scale 10, step 7) gross per month. In addition, you will receive 8% holiday pay, and 8.3% end-of-year bonus. A reduced taxation scheme may apply for some candidates. The conditions of employment comply with the Collective Labour Agreement for Medical Centres (CAO-UMC). An appropriate career development program for the individual will be available.
