About Us: The Workboats Division is one of the four ship-newbuild domains of Damen Shipyards, alongside Offshore & Specialized Vessels, Yachting, and Naval. Our focus is on designing, engineering, building, and commissioning Workboats, such as High-Speed Craft, Fast Ferries, Stationary Dredgers, and Tugs. As technology within the Shipbuilding industry evolves rapidly, Damen Workboats aims to be at the forefront of these developments by constantly exploring new ways to innovate, design, standardize, and optimize systems.

The Technology Management department is tasked with the development and standardization of the ship’s systems portfolio, based on modular and scalable solutions. We are looking for a System Owner for the “Piping Systems” platform within this department.

A system platform team is a multi-disciplinary team responsible for the system platform, which includes development, standardization, and maintenance of the entire (standard) system throughout its lifecycle, encompassing technical content, supply chain, production, quality control, knowledge management, and documentation for in-service support.

Role of the System Owner

The System Owner for Piping Systems leads the system platform team and is accountable for the piping systems across the Workboats product portfolio. The systems included are Propulsion-related ship systems, General ship systems, Safety, Internal and External Fire Fighting systems, and Standard Piping & Components.

The Role: Based on Workboats’ strategic ambitions in sustainability, digitalization, and operational excellence, the System Owner sets a clear vision for the system platform(s). This involves aligning with business requirements, future Damen Workboats’ ship portfolio, supplier cooperation, technology, market needs, and opportunities.

The System Owner ensures the availability of appropriate systems, enabling timely and successful integration into our ships. Systems should be developed with efficiently organized supply chains, embedded organizational knowledge, asset management, and the Damen Services organization ready for customer support. Feedback from customer experiences will be gathered to inform new system developments.

Key Accountabilities: In this role, you will:

  • Be accountable for the system platform, serving as the focal point for its development, implementation, and support.
  • Define a vision and strategy for technology, considering business objectives and market opportunities.
  • Manage the technology development roadmap and align it with the ship type development agenda.
  • Oversee the development and standardization of modular and scalable system families to address the needs of the Damen Workboats portfolio.
  • Approve supplier/partner strategies in collaboration with Damen Category Management and Product groups.
  • Lead a multi-disciplinary system platform team, setting goals and priorities.
  • Initiate and organize collaboration with internal and external partners, defining responsibilities for the systems platforms throughout their lifecycle.
  • Ensure technology development aligns with systems engineering principles and the Verification and Validation model.
  • Embed organizational knowledge through training and instruction setup.

Skills & Experience

As a person, you are:

  • Enthusiastic, open, communicative, and a team player.
  • Proactive, result-oriented, and take ownership.
  • A strong leader with the ability to coach and influence others.
  • People-oriented, energetic, and have management skills.
  • Decisive yet flexible and work methodically.
  • Able to influence while considering the bigger picture.
  • Capable of managing expectations.
  • Willing to travel (based in The Netherlands).

You have:

  • An academic background with a bachelor's and/or master’s degree in a technical field.
  • Demonstrable knowledge in the specific technical domain of a relevant industry.
  • The ability to translate market and business requirements into technology and system development needs.
  • Project management skills, the ability to maintain a clear overview, and prioritize effectively.
  • Experience applying Systems Engineering principles.
  • Experience with development and integration of (marine) installations, including third-party cooperation.
  • Familiarity with (marine) industry standards and regulations.
  • High-quality consciousness and accuracy.
  • Good communication skills in English (Dutch is a plus).
