AkzoNobel’s Strategic Market Unit (SMU) Vehicle Refinishes succeeds at a global level by understanding our customers’ needs and working with them as partners. The SMU Vehicle Refinishes is part of AkzoNobel’s world leading business area Performance Coatings, which supplies high technology coating systems for use all over the world. Within this context, your mission in this role is to act as part of the team responsible for the quality of produced products on AkzoNobel’s large site in Sassenheim, the Netherlands. You help to fulfill various project related activities and smaller lab requests by interacting with the requesting party, setting up & carrying out experiments together with lab technicians and reporting the results back to the requestor with recommendations. The role and its responsibilities

  • Based at our plant in Sassenheim, the Netherlands, you will become part of a dynamic, complex and global business with a high level of technical and quality requirements. As mentioned one of your core tasks is to execute lab requests from (mainly) marketing for all kind of products and to support our production plant in supplying the high quality our customers demand. This involves performing a thorough desk studies and drawing up test programs with realistic time schedules.
  • This role includes execution of test programs (characterization of paint, preparation panels, apply paint, system testing, color measurements etc) and work closely with service departments.
  • Finally, you should always evaluate results, formulate conclusions, and propose next steps, documenting and presenting all in English.
  • VR EMEA service improvement responsibilities.

Candidate profile

To apply for this position, you must possess the following attributes:

  • WO chemistry (or related) level education, with experience of the paint chemistry, or willingness to attend courses in this field.
  • An independent, self-motivated, critical, proactive thinker is needed to support the team manager to manage activities within one of our solution groups.
  • Should quickly develop leadership skills capable of managing the work of one or more co-workers (Technicians / Specialists).
  • Quality driven and awareness
  • Able to make the right decisions under pressure (enabling product flow to our markets)
  • Identification of trends (SQC) and root causes (8D-RCA) of quality problems with existing assortment, or willingness to attend courses in this field.
  • Proactively find solutions to improve quality and effectively deal with new Marketing requests.
  • Support global production strategy.
  • Knowledge of statistics and DoE, or willingness to attend courses in this field.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills including fluent written and spoken English.
