About The Role

Upstream Procurement is a new and exciting function that sits at the very heart of Dyson product development. Our team is a blend of commercial and engineering skills and we work very closely with our colleagues in NPI, Research and Engineering. Our role is to support and develop the procurement and supply chain strategies for new technologies that will help define Dyson’s future success.

As part of the Global Supply Chain Team, we lead and drive upstream procurement activity across all product categories for the newest technologies and early supplier engagement. We work collaboratively alongside Research and NPI from the very start of the product development process to ensure we are building robust new supply chains that have optimum cost, quality, and performance outcomes.

The successful applicant for this role will join the upstream procurement team, owning the sourcing of a product critical commodity on our newest projects. This role will give you the opportunity to own a commodity area, and develop its strategic direction to best match the changing demands of future Dyson projects.

As a member of the upstream procurement team you will:

  • Hit the ground running, getting deeply involved in many live projects across all Dyson categories and helping to deliver best in class technology to market at the right price
  • Engage and lead Upstream Procurement initiatives to source high quality parts, or sub-assemblies, that meet all performance, functional and commercial requirements
  • Utilise and develop a technical and commercial understanding of various commodity and technology areas, supported by both Dyson experts and from wider industry
  • Drive supplier engagement and become an independent focal point for engineering and supplier interaction
  • Be involved with the upstream sourcing decisions that define which parts and suppliers that we will use on future Dyson projects
  • Scout, analyse and develop prospective new suppliers into Dyson’s supply chain
  • Broaden your professional network, both within Dyson with our senior NPI and research stakeholders, and external to Dyson with suppliers and manufacturers
  • Have the opportunity to undertake on-site visits to suppliers based in both Europe and the Far East

About You

  • Mechanical/electrical engineering degree or commercial discipline with demonstrable work experience
  • Passionate about new technology, we want people who are always looking to find a better option
  • A strong technical understanding of electro-mechanical components allowing you to actively participate in upstream design decisions
  • Adaptable and creative in your approach to problem solving; happy to challenge the status-quo where appropriate
  • Comfortable in presenting your point of view, either in a team environment or to wider stakeholder groups
  • Self-starter with the ability to drive early part sourcing activities in an efficient and organised manner
  • Above all, you’ll want to play a key part in bringing the next generation of Dyson products to the world
