Role Purpose

Lead and manage a team responsible for all site non-agricultural operations (including: seed import/export; receipt and inventory; and harvest, drying, shelling, treatment, packeting and shipping) with seamless track and trace, plus associated planning, budgeting, equipment maintenance and personnel management activities, in the context and as a member of the site leadership team focused on meeting seed delivery KPI targets

Accountabilities

  • Train, develop and manage the Operational team in all relevant functional, safety and stewardship aspects of their roles, in compliance with all relevant company HSE guidelines; serve on site HSE committee
  • Lead, manage and develop Operational team personnel by
    • estimating resource needs and timely hiring, role definition, training, development and evaluation of performance for all personnel
    • ensuring staff are competent to carry out all aspects of pre-planting and post-harvest operations at the site, including seed import/export; receipt and inventory; and harvest, drying, shelling, treatment, packeting and shipping
    • ensuring seamless track and trace of all materials at every stage of the pre-planting and post-harvest processes maintaining the identity and traceability of the seed throughout
    • ensuring staff are competent to carry out the proper care and regular maintenance of site assets according to established schedules, including dryers, automated processing lines (APLs) and other facilities
    • establishing a collaborative culture between Operations and other site functions
  • Lead the continuous improvement of site Operations through implementation of OPEX and Six Sigma principles and SOP refinement and development to boost output, reduce costs and errors and improve efficiency
  • Manage service and work orders with vendors to ensure timely availability of operational inputs
  • Communicate effectively, through e.g. regular progress updates, plans and timelines, and resource or input gaps, as needed or requested by managers and key stakeholders
  • Support budget development and deliver to targets through effective cost control
  • Contribute as member of Puerto Vallarta site leadership team, in particular by delivery of excellence in operational practices to support delivery of KPI targets for yield and timeliness

Qualifications

Essential for this position:

  • B.S. in agronomy or industrial or equivalent experience in seed, Ag, or food industry. Master desirable.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English
  • Understanding of seed post-harvest methodology and physiological behavior and quality metrics
  • Ability to implement process improvements to boost process and site efficiencies
  • Excellent leadership, team building and interpersonal skills, especially those required to successfully perform as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills
  • Results orientation with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects/priorities simultaneously.
  • Project management certification desirable (Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing or similar)
  • Strong computer skills, including advanced knowledge of MS Office, data management and analysis software.
  • Flexible, adaptable and safety-oriented
