Business Intelligence Business Analyst

‘The goal is to turn data into information and information into insight’

The Enterprise Information Management team of Thales in the Netherlands is looking for an experienced Business Analyst to further professionalize information management.

About us

With 80.000 talents working in 68 countries, we are one of the biggest high-tech employers in the field of safety and security. In the Netherlands, where 2000 employees are based, we are located in four cities: Huizen, Delft, Eindhoven and Hengelo (HQ). Together with an extensive ecosystem of knowledge partners, customers and suppliers, we work on radars for naval vessels, cyber security solutions, transportation systems, communication equipment for land forces, cryogenic cooling solutions and research & development for radar tech (in collaboration with TU Delft).

About the team

The Enterprise Information Management (EIM) team is a central team facilitating the business reporting, analytics and data management needs of the Thales Netherlands organization. The team consists of different specialists who deliver adequate data and information solutions in close collaboration with business stakeholders.

About the job

Thales in the Netherlands has committed to the objective to become a ‘data-driven company’, where facts and unambiguous information are leading in decision making. As a Business Analyst you are the linking pin between the business customer and the EIM team. You understand how the business operates, its processes and its information needs. At the same time, you have the right technical knowledge to translate the business needs into information solutions which can be delivered by the EIM team. This means that you have the right communication skills to address different audiences and to ask the right questions to get to the bottom of the customers’ information need. However, this also means that you have the right technical skills to support extracting source data, and in building reports and dashboards. You will work closely together with the Product Owner; together you will define clear LEAN business cases which will enable the Product Owner to prioritize requests.

As a Business Analyst, you are responsible for translating functional requirements into terms that an engineer can understand. Once the product is ready, the Business Analyst is also the first person to check whether the delivered product also answers the functional requirements. Focused on business intelligence: does the delivered information product (report, cube) also answer the questions the user has asked?

Furthermore, you will be asked to challenge the status quo; within the business, but also within the team. You have a sparkling personality, you can think out-of-the-box, and you come up with creative solutions. You like to work in an agile team, where people work in a multi-disciplinary fashion and where iterative working, together with the business, is key. You will strengthen this process together with the scrum master.

The most important tasks are:

  • Identify, clarify and summarize the problem solving requests from the different departments;
  • Advising role towards business for reporting/analytics solutions to fulfill information needs;
  • Representing the business for the product, maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure their views and requirements are captured in the product backlog;
  • Supporting the product owner by implementing the roadmap, prioritizing the items in the backlog, and sharing the product owner's vision with stakeholders;
  • Facilitating interactive workshops where, together with business stakeholders, is determined what the essentials are for the need for information;
  • Helping team members to align the technical solution with the requirements from business;
  • Explaining business requirements to data engineers to ensure proper implementation;
  • Be able to apply knowledge of data warehousing and PowerBI to translate this into requested solutions;
  • Promote and position EIM within the Thales Netherlands organization by managing stakeholders and external communication.

About you

  • Holds a HBO or University degree (preferably Business & IT, Business Economics);
  • Several years of experience in similar positions;
  • Has the skills to cope with contradicting stakes in the organization and knows how to deal with ‘politics’;
  • Is able to build bridges between the business information need and the technical possibilities;
  • Is a good listener, can reflect critically and ask thorough questions, also when the message is not clear enough;
  • Has good communicative skills and can easily adapt to different audiences;
  • Has extensive knowledge about Reporting and Analytics tooling (preferably PowerBI)
  • Has a good proficiency in English, both verbally and written;
  • Experience with working agile
  • Collaborative team player
  • Self-starter
