Job Duties

  • Principal Accountabilities:
  • A core team member supporting the Investment Managers to acquire and dispose of Direct Investments which support the Investment Strategy of LGC and comply with mandates, limits and other governance criteria.
  • Responsible for the completion of investment appraisals and key due diligence work streams of an investment. This will include:
  • Undertaking commercial, technical, financial and legal due diligence work streams for prospective investments.
  • Managing second line due diligence, governance and risk assessments undertaken by specialist colleagues within L&G to satisfy LGC’s internal due diligence requirements.
  • Undertaking economic valuation work and modelling to deliver a quantitative appraisal of a potential investment in terms of expected returns and an evaluation of how the structures would behave under downside scenarios;
  • Preparing investment reports, both for dissemination within the team and for Group-wide committees.
  • Researching and analysing technologies, markets and opportunities in the Direct Investment pipeline and presenting findings clearly to facilitate decision-making.
  • Providing input to the approval process for any acquisition or disposal to ensure it is in line with group governance policies and processes. Ensuring that information provided to decision making committees is accurate and risks are clearly set out.
  • Ensuring all Management Information is accurate, of high quality and provided in a timely manner to support decision-making, the implementation of strategy and management of the asset pipeline.
  • Where appropriate, providing analysis and administrative support to senior colleagues in carrying out the duties of a Company Director; ensure that records are maintained and that meetings are held regularly
  • The role holder will always operate within delegated authorities, risk tolerances and other limits which apply to Direct Investment.
  • On-going management oversight of LGC clean energy portfolio investments.

Skills Required

  • Qualifications:
  • Ideally Business, Economics, Engineering, Environmental Science or Mathematical Graduate with ACA/CFA or equivalent
  • Knowledge & Skills:
  • Ability to perform financial statement analysis, detailed cash flow modelling of deals and familiarity with key valuation techniques (e.g. DCF) to generate recommendations for a variety of senior-level audiences.
  • 3+ years’ experience in clean energy investments (assets, companies and/or technology), ideally including different technologies and/or business models.
  • Preference for experience of working with equity investors on clean energy transactions within corporate finance, private equity or infrastructure.
  • Experience of managing formal Due Diligence including review of contracts.
  • Ability to assess risk and to work with other parties to ensure risks of an investment are understood and accepted.
  • Must be commercially astute and demonstrate excellent investment appraisal and analysis skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent quantitative skills and very strong MS Excel / financial modelling skills.
  • Excellent report-writing skills, preferably using MS Word and Powerpoint.
