Role and Responsibilities

Purpose of the Role:

We are currently looking for exceptional computer scientists or engineers to join our knowledge graph research team within our DI (Data Intelligence) group in SRUK. The Data Intelligence group researches and develops methods of analysing and organising large amounts of data and creating meaningful and actionable insights from them. Our current work includes research on construction of, and reasoning on, knowledge graphs for use in applications such as personalization and question answering, with the ultimate aim of making Samsung devices more helpful and valuable to our users.

Key Functions:

The key functions of this role are to

  • Investigate and implement methods to create structured knowledge bases (or knowledge graphs) from structured data (such as HTML tables, SQL databases), semi-structured data (such as Wikipedia pages) or unstructured data such as text.
  • Contribute to a team effort to expand Samsung’s knowledge graph to a scale of billions of entities and relationships.
  • Research state of the art developments in the Knowledge Representation / Knowledge Graph construction community.

  • The candidate will be working with other internal Samsung teams, both locally and globally, in addition to external parties such as academic partners.

Skills and Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline (an equivalent period of industrial experience may be substituted).
  • Strong Computer Science foundation in data structures, algorithm design and complexity analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of Python, Java, C++ or other modern languages;
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication, team work and a results-oriented attitude.

Desirable Skills (some of the following):

  • Experience (commercial, academic project or personal project) of web crawling/scraping (HTML, CSS; packages such as Scrapy)
  • Experience with applying Statistical Natural Language Processing tools and techniques (Named Entity Recognition, parsing, co-reference resolution, word embedding; packages such as NLTK, Spacy).
  • Experience of interacting with large scale databases (SQL, NoSQL and/or graph databases).
  • Good understanding of Ontologies & Semantic Web Technologies (OWL, RDF, SWRL, SPARQL, Jena) and reasoning services
  • Experience with Datalog and/or rule-based systems.
  • Information Retrieval experience
