Overview of job

MediaCom London is looking for a brilliant comms planner or strategist to join our market-leading strategy team, and are particularly interested in candidates who are looking to move into their first strategy role.

You will work on a range of clients depending on your interests, experience and skillset, but will most likely include two or three of some of the agency’s highest profile account, potentially including: The Coca-Cola Company, Mars, Sky, PSA Peugeot Citroen, This Girl Can, Scope, eBay or MoneySuperMarket.

3 best things about the job:

  1. The CID team sits right at the heart of Mediacom – we’re probably the only team that are connected to everyone – from insights, to business science, to our content team MediaCom Beyond Advertising, to implementational planning. We’re also relied on by senior management for advice. So despite the size of the agency, it’s very easy to make your mark as a MediaCom strategist.
  2. Because our role is to challenge and inspire the planning teams and the agency, not just lead upfront strategy, we get involved in lots of different types of projects; helping to develop award winning work, running Connected Pitching – a 24 hour turnaround brief for all of the junior planners in the agency, facilitating workshops internally and externally and leading collaboration with creative partners, media owners and start-ups.
  3. Working in the most diverse team of strategists in London, twelve senior strategists with backgrounds in media, creative, digital, data and research, this is the perfect place for you to start your first strategy role as you’ll be surrounded by a team of experienced strategists to learn from and help you develop.

What you will need

You will have solid strategic and problem-solving capabilities, but either aren’t feeling stretched in your current role or have to spend too much time on admin and account management. This is most likely to be a media or comms planner who is looking for a move into a more strategic role; however we’ve also successfully recruited people with a wide range of backgrounds, including digital specialists, researchers and creative planners.

You’ll be passionate about making great work happen, and be excited about the opportunities data has to drive both effectiveness and creativity on plans. You will have the ability to fuse creative and analytical thinking, simplifying the complex to give clarity of thought.

We’re looking for passion, enthusiasm, and a desire not just to develop great strategic thinking but a desire to help our planners turn it into award-winning execution across any channel.

Responsibilities of the role

Your role will be to help MediaCom consistently deliver the most innovative, creative and effective work in the industry.

We are looking for a creative problem solver. You should bring a fresh perspective to any problem – always challenging yourself and those around you to connect thoughts & ideas in new ways, and in doing so help the rest of the planning team deliver brilliant, forward thinking work on every brief.

You will also help our clients answer bigger, long-term questions, keeping them up to date with the latest thinking, helping them understand consumer behaviour, and inspiring them with the new.

We work exceptionally closely with their other agencies, and you will also have a lead role in driving strategic integration with these partners, and in running workshops and brainstorms to develop creative ideas.

Around 75% of your time will be spent working with clients. The rest will be flexible, depending on your own skills and passions, but would include a mix of new business pitches, continuing to the agency’s planning proposition, workshop facilitation, mentoring junior planners and client projects in areas that you have expertise in or are keen to develop.

This is a new role that will be expanding the team because of MediaCom’s growth.

*Although we cannot make guarantees, we welcome conversations about flexible working for all roles at MediaCom London*

The Team

The Challenge and Inspiration Department (CID) is MediaCom’s team of thirteen senior strategists. Our responsibility is to create market-leading, innovative and effective work for some of the UK’s most interesting clients. We work with account teams and other departments to push their work, to ensure that the strategies are as strong as they can be and that the execution is extraordinary. As a team, we are involved as much in the execution of a strategy or idea, as we are in the strategic front-end planning.

We come from a range of backgrounds including media, creative, digital, data, social and research, and we all sit together at the heart of the agency, creating an exciting working environment. We also set the planning agenda for the agency – the philosophy, the process, and an inspiration programme.

We are also closely connected to the CID teams in our Manchester, Leeds, Edinburgh and Birmingham offices, as well as the MediaCom EMEA & Global strategy team in our London office.

The Agency

We are proud of our track record of delivering brilliant, effective work for our clients. We have won more IPA Effectiveness Awards thanany other media agency. In 2018 MediaCom London won the Cannes Media Lions Grand Prix for our work on Tesco, and were also recognised by the WARC Gunn Report as the top agency globally for media excellence, as part of its Gunn Media 100.

Here at MediaCom, we know that our people are our greatest asset in making us the UK’s leading agency and so we make sure our employees are rewarded and looked after in terms of career growth, social life and personal welfare.
