What you’ll need

Predicted minimum 2:1 in your bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Maths, a relevant Physical Science or Computer Science, or equivalent qualification. See programme details below for any variations.

What you’ll get

£17,850 paid pro rata

How long?

  • 10 week summer programmes
  • 12 month programmes

Where?

We have locations across the UK, so we'll need you to be flexible. Our major sites are Derby, Bristol and Birmingham.

What you’ll be doing

Imagine working to discover solutions to some of our planet’s most vital power needs. That’s what our 19,400 engineers do every day, all over the world. Some of them are multi-disciplinary, some are specialists and some are world experts in their field. But all of them show outstanding technical knowledge, determination and the ability to work as part of a team to deliver our pioneering products.

To reflect the diverse and complex nature of our work, we offer a number of programmes; our core Engineering internships; or a number of dedicated specialisms: Electrical Systems, Electronics, Materials, Nuclear Controls, Software, Systems or Submarines Engineering.

Join us for 10 weeks over the summer or for 12 months. The longer you spend with us, the more impact and responsibility you can expect to have on real-life assignments that span the breadth of your discipline. The year-long internship is equivalent to one of the attachments from our graduate programme.

However long you’re with us for, you’ll have the opportunity to prove yourself. Perform well and you could be offered the chance to join a graduate programme.

If you’re a student member of an institute, experience gained on your internship can be used to credit some of your learning towards your graduate programme and chartership status, should you choose to join.

Materials

High performance materials are critical to the efficiency and reliability of our products. Materials Engineers develop and apply high technology materials solutions to meet the most demanding requirements across our products; working across the product lifecycle, developing and applying new technology, supporting manufacture and design and providing expert support to products in-service. You’ll get to work closely with specialists across the company and with world leading experts in our extensive academic network to ensure the most up to date and appropriate technology is applied. Technologies range from high performance polymer composites, titanium alloys, high temperature nickel superalloys to ceramic composites and high-performance coating systems.

What we’re looking for

  • Strong academic foundation
  • Good at problem-solving
  • Passionate about engineering
