About the programme

KPMG's Tax practice is a dynamic and successful area of our business. The Tax team works with a wide range of organisations and individuals, helping them to implement the tax approach that suit their needs. A constantly changing and increasingly high-profile field, Tax can offer a surprisingly broad range of quality career paths to ambitious people.

The Corporation Tax Advisory team includes a combination of tax professionals and chartered accountants who provide comprehensive and commercial advice to clients on their day to day tax issues. The advice is tailored to the client’s needs to help them achieve their objectives in a responsible and sustainable way. The key areas the team works in are:

  • Support in preparing and submitting corporation tax computations with HMRC

  • Support in advising clients on the computational treatment of contentious issues and negotiating with HMRC when required

  • Support in conducting tax audits and advising the audit team of potential tax exposures

  • Support in providing tax technical advice to clients on a range of issues depending on the nature of the clients business and what they are doing with the business, for example:

-Refinancing

-Mergers and Acquisitions

-Expansion plans

-Entering new markets

-Developing new products

-Moving premises

-Staff reward issues

-Interacting with overseas teams and clients in order to manage processes and ensure that deadlines are met when queries are raised by the client, and to manage the resolution of those queries between the client and the overseas teams.

What your job will involve

  • Working collaboratively, assisting with the delivery of client engagements

  • Preparation of a range of tax advisory and compliance related work

  • Working with specialists from other tax areas and other disciplines to ensure that all relevant KPMG offerings are discussed with clients and targets

  • Keeping internal control records up to date and ensuring compliance with quality control procedures

  • Ensuring fees are raised regularly, identifying situations where overruns can be billed and assisting senior members of the department in billing for advisory work

  • Strong time and task management skills. Able to remain calm when under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Monitors and upholds high quality of service and products to clients (internal and external). A practical approach to solving problems with client focus and commercial awareness

  • Sustains a high level of drive, shows enthusiasm and a positive attitude when coping with pressure at work
