Position Description

Project / Service Manager – Satellite Ground Segment

CGI is a leading provider of ground segment software for the world’s most advanced telecommunications satellites. We are currently working on a project to migrate the ground stations of one of the world’s largest commercial ground segment provider from a legacy mixture of software control systems to a modern monitoring and control architecture.

Your future duties and responsibilities

In the first phase the project manager will be responsible for carrying out a proof of concept transition, establishing the transition approach, and delivering key software elements. In the follow-on phases the Project Manager will be responsible for delivering the transition across the client’s global network. This will be done as a service via a flexible contracting approach so that the delivery can be aligned with the client’s business needs. As such the approach will become service oriented and customer-centric with a team of around 5 FTEs based in Surrey (Leatherhead).

The project manager is responsible for delivering their projects to an agreed baseline, while managing project finances, reporting, schedule and risks. This will require direct interaction with the client, end-users and partner organisations, so presentational and interpersonal skills are important.

As well as managing project teams, the candidate will also take a hands-on role in tasks such as user requirements gathering, documentation, client presentations, testing and acceptance, user on-boarding, and technical support. As such, it is important to have excellent communication skills and a high degree of technical rigour.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role

Essential:

  • University degree or equivalent qualification in a technical discipline – e.g. Science, Engineering or Computer Science

  • Strong project management or service delivery skills and the ability to complete complex tasks with minimal guidance and to work and cooperate with others;

  • Proven project management or service delivery track record, including risk and issue management;

  • Excellent client facing and written/verbal communication skills;

  • Experience in satellite or terrestrial communications networks

Highly Desirable:

  • Experience in delivering projects and services with bespoke and off-the-shelf software

This role will be based in Leatherhead with the CGI SatComs team.

Some short trips to Europe will be required for customer meetings. Although not envisaged it may occasionally be necessary to travel to customer sites around the world such as Hawaii and Australia.
