JOB PURPOSE:
Mobile Analytical Services (MAS) group operations provide scientific services to the industrial gases industry, customer installations (both internally and Externally to AP). All activities are to be undertaken in accordance with company safety standards, specifications, quality procedures and legislative requirements.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Provide MAS operations in accordance with company specifications and standards, with particular emphasis on safety:
- Perform assigned planned and unplanned maintenance and calibrations
- Communication with management of MAS status
- Undertake other work as directed including exposure to sales, projects, proposals, incident investigations, audits, R&D, trouble shooting and participation in review teams to increase understanding of related activities.
Quality accountabilities
- Completion of and provision of training as defined by the training matrix
- Operations in line with ISO9001 and GMP quality standards
- Completion of company induction training programme in accordance with group standards.
- Perform/organise maintenance of allocated vehicles, tools, equipment and instruments in accordance with company procedures.
- Completion of relevant work record as identified by line management
- Continued development of quality systems including procedure writing, management of change systems, new analytical systems, and data control database
Analytical Services:
- Operate MAS Analytical equipment.
- Running laboratory instrumentation.
- Travel to customer sites to perform supported analytical testing/sampling (across EMEA). Validation of gas systems (supply to source).
- Operation and maintenance of laboratory and ancillaries (gas supply levels, suitable calibration standards and acceptance)
- Purifier start-ups and commissioning.
- Start-up, shut downs and troubleshooting analysers.
- Provide analytical support to the wider Air Products groups.
- Represent Air Products in front of the customer.
MAS Chemist Responsibilities include:
- Analyser maintenance & calibration.
- Compliance with the MAS quality system.
- Time entry and personal responsibility for projects including report & certification issue. Communication with customers (internal & external).
- Laboratory maintenance & housekeeping.
- Supporting Instrumentation validations.
- Processing of samples through the laboratory and timely reporting of data.
- Peer review of data and analysis.
- Development and implementation of new analytical systems as required, including all documentation packages, validations, purchasing justifications and support systems.
- Support business development and growth objectives of the group.
- Project management and self-accountability for work, in line with MAS procedures, from initiation, quotation, travel and logistics arrangements, site work/sampling (if required) through to completion and close out
Safety
- Ensure full compliance to company safety policies and procedures including compliance with Basic Safety Process.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Degree level qualifications in Chemistry related subject.
- Exposure to Industrial Gases and manufacturing (ASU’s, plants, tanks, tankers, cylinder filling, etc), benificial,
- High level of laboratory/industrial safety training & awareness.
- Specialised in Gas Analysis analytical techniques (inc, GC, Mass Spec, etc)
- Awareness of Quality systems and standards required of an industrial laboratory (ISO, GMP, etc)
- Full UK driving licence (manual gearbox, willingness to drive large vans, as required)
- High level abilities for using computer systems, including use of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), chromatography data acquisition systems.
- Data-recording systems (PC to analysers) and PLC exposure, highly beneficial.
