Purpose of the role:

This is an opportunity to join the core team delivering interior modules or systems for all McLaren Automotive road car programs. You will support and be involved with all activity covering current production, development & future programs.

Principal accountabilities:

  • Work cross functionally and with the supply base to develop Interior Cockpit systems to support door casing, Facia and tunnel features for future McLaren cars.
  • Reporting to the Principal Engineer you will undertake technical project management & engineering of Interior Cockpit (Instrument Panel and Door trims) module delivery.
  • Support the introduction of new features to current and future programmes.
  • Management of component and system level delivery at each project milestone, from styling feasibility through series production, interacting daily with the concept, styling and Purchasing teams.
  • Manage and cultivate a technical relationship with a global supplier base to deliver new features on time, to a cost, and within quality and functional specifications.
  • Take responsibility for resolving issues on current production vehicles. Execute resolution actions with the support of the current engineering teams.
  • Take direction from McLaren senior management.
  • Manage and deliver DFMEA, Engineering statements of work, engineering release, concerns resolution and DVP, and support the development and release of the project dedicated Technical Specification.
  • Support supply chain to manage commercial.
  • Support technical layout, package and ergonomic study for seat module.
  • Manage and deliver bill of materials costs, investment and weight for responsible component and system

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Mechanical or Automotive Engineering Degree 2:1 or above (or equivalent experience)
  • CATIA V5 2D/3D skills – Layouts, sections, approver. Design background an advantage.
  • Previous experience in OEM or tier one in technical delivery in the automotive industry would be advantageous, but not essential.
  • Knowledge of interior technical parameters and specifications.
  • Basic understanding of commercial to maintain a focus on cost, profit, quality and risk.
  • Ability to define technical solution to support the decision-making process.
  • Materials Knowledge with basic understanding of metal, foam, plastics and composites.
  • Proven success in delivering challenging technical projects to market.

  • Good organisational skills and ability to project manage design tasks both internally and with the suppliers. Able to multi-task and prioritise.
  • Willing to travel and work flexible hours when required.
  • Passion for High Performance and Sport/Premium cars.
