Within ASML, the sector Technology is responsible for the definition and development of products and technologies, with the aim of extending ASML’s market position. The Corporate Intellectual Property (CIP) department is within the sector Products responsible for maximizing the global intellectual property position to protect and support ASML’s business and, in particular, to establish and maintain a portfolio of patent rights to preserve freedom to operate for ASML. To preserve a competitive patent position in the future, the CIP department is looking for a Competitive Intelligence Analyst.

Job Mission

Ambitious MSc/ PhD graduate who wants to pursue his/her career in an international high-tech environment!

He/she is responsible for collecting and analyzing information to gain knowledge/insight and to develop actionable intelligence on the competitive landscape of our business (e.g. competitive products, R&D activities, etc.), and reporting that information/ intelligence to all relevant stakeholders.

Job Description

  • Gathers information that is relevant to ASML regarding technology that is being used, developed, patented or published by ASML's competitors.
  • Actively maintains an (international) internal and external network
  • Identify competitors, markets, customers, suppliers, or other variables in the environment to be monitored - identify what information is to be collected
  • Specifically identify possible sources of information and collect the information from these sources
  • Evaluate the validity, reliability, and usefulness of the information collected
  • Interpret and analyze the information for strategic or tactical significance - draw conclusions and recommend actions; e.g.  Technology Forecasting – anticipating possible future development paths for particular technologies
  • Disseminate and present analyzed findings to relevant stakeholders


  • Master’s degree or PhD in engineering or technical science (preferably physics or mechatronics).


  • Working experience with advanced (semiconductor) technology and/or machine construction is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Intellectual Property or Competitive Intelligence is considered an asset.

  • Strong analytical skills.  
  • Affinity with reading and analyzing scientific and patent literature.
  • Solution minded, precise and practical.
  • Good organizational and communicational skills.
  • Open minded, creative when handling problems independently, committed and flexible.
  • In-depth knowledge of the English language. Knowledge of the Japanese language is an asset.

Context of the position

The Competitive Intelligence Analyst reports to the manager of the CIP Search & Competitive Intelligence group and interfaces with the Patent Attorneys, other members of the CIP organization, engineers and researchers, and managers in other departments such as Marketing and Product Development.
