Job Summary

This role is part of the Global Chocolate Packaging team and will be located in Veghel, The Netherlands as part of a team of 4, working on the development of packaging innovations for the bar brands Snickers® and Twix® globally.

The manager of this team, the Global Packaging Director, and the other part of this team is based in Chicago.

The associate will have an important impact to the business with accountability for deploying complex Packaging Innovation, Efficiency and Sustainability initiatives. The associate will act as Technical Leader, understands how to manage stakeholders, how to influence team members and drives results. Areas of influence and interaction: multiple regions and markets globally (across multiple functions), interacts with global brands, central and regional packaging teams, factories, co-manufacturers/packers (depending on project), suppliers and external network. Uses the Mars 5 principles when managing packaging change through the business. Coaches other members of the packaging team.

This role will also be the subject matter expert on paper/fibre providing technical guidance across the packaging development team, connecting with professional organizations, universities, research centres and suppliers on this topic to advance the development of novel packaging solutions across our chocolate brands portfolio.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise on Paper/Fiber for the global packaging development team and continuously learn and grow in this role by creating and maintaining a strong external network.
  • Leads Growth activities – but also covering Efficiency through value-leadership projects, and Quality through brand maintenance initiatives
  • Uses the specific business processes to identify the Viability and Feasibility of the Desirable concepts delivered by the Global Marketing and Design Teams, applies project management discipline and tools, ensures compliance with our quality standards and Sustainability measures.
  • Inputs to the Bars packaging innovation pipeline; from consumer, shopper, channel and customer insight generation and translation to technical solutions and drive penetration of all of our key bar brands globally (namely Snickers® and Twix®).
  • Understanding of the internal and external supply network capabilities in particular collaboration with the regional supply teams and external suppliers in key regions


Education & Professional Qualification

M.S. or PhD degree in Packaging, Packaging Materials, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Polymer Science or Engineering with packaging work experience and proven records (on the Market).


  • The Senior Packaging Engineer is having a vast knowledge in Packaging systems, Packaging materials and Packaging technologies.
  • R&D experience in (Packaging/Engineering/Process/Product/Quality) within food or consumer goods.
  • Leadership skills, strong technical project management experience and proven ability to drive complex Packaging initiatives from concept to implementation (across quality, efficiency and growth projects) with the ability to motivate and direct a technical team.
  • Experience of working in cross-functional project teams and multi-disciplinary R&D teams.
  • Experience in the translation and application of consumer/business insights and sensory data to develop packaging experiences.
  • Required competencies: Stakeholder Management, Drive for Results, Planning, Peer relationships, Conflict Management, Influencing, Creativity, Business Acumen.
