The opportunity:

Part of the N&G leadership team, you will be responsible for running an underwriting unit, specializing in one or more lines of business, leading a team of underwriters in making appropriate underwriting decisions. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver quality, customer-focused outcomes, whilst developing strong business and broker relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the evaluation, professional development, training and coaching of underwriters. Convey knowledge to staff to aid in making appropriate underwriting decisions.
  • Delivery of key business, team and individual KPIs. Monitor and report underwriting and Production Metrics of team.
  • Dedicatedly seek renewal and new account opportunities.
  • Qualify accounts to meet with the organization's appetite, consistent with sound business opportunity.
  • Act as point of escalation for brokers and customers
  • Participate in Sales Team meetings, working proactively with sales and development to expand new business and existing business opportunities.
  • Complete capacity and resource management activity across the team to ensure all service levels are met
  • Complete opportunity assessment across key distributors to identify growth opportunities.
  • Provide support to underwriters in problem solving and change management.
  • Provide continuous mentoring on underwriting best practices and drive a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Cross-Sell other lines of business to increase product density with the account.
  • Develop strong broker and client networks as related to industries underwritten by Business Unit.
  • Analysis of key underwriting metrics by utilizing underwriting tools appropriately.
  • Ensure robust governance is in place and maintained across the team, remaining compliant at all times
  • Monitor and identify market trends and coverage exposure developments.
  • Maintain current distributor and key customer relationships as well as the development of new relationships.
  • Build productive internal relationships with support service partners.

Your skills and experience:

  • CII qualifications, ACII preferred
  • Experience within an underwriting function
  • Role model key Zurich leadership behaviours and evidence of people management
  • Customer focused and passionate about driving through continuous improvement
