The opportunity:

Your role will report to Senior Legal Counsel reporting directly into the Head of the Commercial Insurance Legal Team (

This role is available part-time, job-share or full time. This is because we want the best people for our roles, and we recognise that sometimes those people aren’t available full-time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • As part of the CI Team, you will handle a broad range of issues of a legal and regulatory nature, while protecting the assets and reputation of Zurich.
  • Provide professional, independent and pragmatic legal advice to support the CI Team, and all internal clients of the CI Team
  • Be at ease working with more senior members of the team and be a supportive team player.
  • Ability to work seamlessly (i) across our Commercial P&C business units (Commercial Insurance and Zurich Municipal) (ii) across both the P&C and Life business for procurement/sourcing contracts.
  • To assess regulatory risk and customer outcomes in any advice provided.
  • To draft and negotiate a wide range of transactional documents, including distribution arrangements, procurement and sourcing contracts.
  • To assist in the development and maintenance of key legal precedents.
  • To train internal stakeholders on key legal issues e.g.. data protection law, competition law and other regulatory topics.
  • Advise in relation to commercial contracts involving IT/IP transactions. Data Protection Act awareness is important
  • To assist senior team leaders on the execution of major projects involving a wide range of areas (e.g. FCA analysis, Regulatory licencing and Data Security issues).
  • To support the Head of the CI Team and other Senior Solicitors in the UK Legal team.
  • Assist in the implementation of UK Legal’s strategic objectives.

Your skills and experience:

  • Qualified lawyer or Solicitor with practical experience of a broad range of non- contentions matters gained in the Financial Services industry.
  • A proven track record demonstrating an ability to deal confidently with insurance (and preferably reinsurance) matters ( both non-contentious, strategic and drafting) as well as experience of adding value in regulatory matters.
  • Familiarity with the current regulatory framework.
  • Knowledge of the insurance sector, distribution channels and current insurance and reinsurance law is highly preferable.
  • Very good written skills, in particular the ability to explain complex legal issues in a way that is easily understood by non-lawyers
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with ability to adapt style to suit audience
  • Enthusiastic to take ownership and control of matters/issues that have been delegated to you.
  • Ability to build relationships and create a climate of trust
  • Ability to proactively seek new solutions and to challenge the status quo
