An opportunity has arisen to spearhead our Strategic Consulting work with UK and international developers, land owners and public sector clients, reviewing real estate portfolios and projects, and shaping development proposals to create viable and implementable schemes.

Working with our urban development and urban planners and engineers you will grow and develop our Strategic consulting offer and portfolio for real estate clients.

The role within our Strategies and Plans team will combine with BuroHappold teams working across residential and commercial mixed use development and urban regeneration as well as across our other sector specialities in sport, culture, transit oriented development and higher education.

Required Skills

  • Extensive experience in a strategic advisory/consulting environment in the real estate sector as part of a wider planning and development, real estate or management consulting practice;
  • Working with client sector directors and development managers as trusted advisor shaping and managing projects including developing tailored technical solutions.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of urban/city challenges and the value of an integrated offer (including planning, economics, and technical infrastructure and environmental expertise).
  • Experienced project leader with a track record of exceptional technical delivery over a sustained period within the industry (15+ years post qualification experience).
  • Strong experience of feasibility studies, financial appraisal and business case work relating to complex projects.
  • Work winning skills and an ability to leverage an extensive network of relationships with land owners, real estate developers, investors and their advisors.
  • Problem solving ability and capacity to innovate evidenced through projects, application of new solutions and thought leadership/industry profile.
  • Have experience of inspiring, mentoring and leading a high performing teams.

Beneficial

  • Speciality sector experience in one or more of urban regeneration, mixed use development, sport and leisure, culture, tourism, hospitality.
  • The role has a UK focus. However, the Strategies and Plans team has teams in USA, Europe, Asia and the Middle East and experience of working and advising client on international projects would be beneficial.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2:1 honours degree in economics, planning, surveying or a related subject.
  • Relevant postgraduate degree and professional chartership of built environment profession such as Chartered Surveyor, Town Planner, Engineer would be desirable.

Operations

  • Project lead taking ownership of the financial and technical success of the projects whilst strengthening the client relationships and repeat business opportunities.
  • Managing the resourcing of projects and work winning activity to achieve appropriate teaming and delivery.
  • Contribute to maximising the effectiveness and utilisation of the team to deliver the business plan and operational KPIs.
  • Support team development including mentoring and coaching staff and accountable for supporting performance appraisal and personal development plans.

Finance

  • Supporting the delivery of a risk managed project portfolio; working within agreed financial parameters and targets;
  • Actively seeks out and help secures projects which will lead to profitable work aligned with the Strategies and Plans Group and wider Cities business plan.
  • Monitors and manages the successful delivery of projects in this context and in terms of technical quality, timely delivery, financial performance and client satisfaction.

Reporting

  • Reporting on technical, commercial, financial and people performance and participating in regular management meetings.
  • Maintaining an active pipeline of business opportunities aligned with the business plan.
  • Maintaining an accurate picture of current and future market trends in order to establish and continuously improve our offering across the Cities sector.
