As a Graduate Intern at ORTEC you will be part of a unique organization and team!

How do shipping companies decide which route to sail with the absence of ‘Google SeaMaps’? Does the optimal route differ amongst different seasons or different weather conditions? What does optimal mean? For instance, what happens when optimizing on shortest distance, shortest time, lowest cost or maybe safest route? When to sail via canals? How to deal with piracy areas or emission control areas? These are examples of questions the student can dive into when graduating in this subject.

At ORTEC, we have created a naval route planner using one shipping company’s historic voyages. In this concept, historic voyages were split into a network of nodes and arcs and Dijkstra’s algorithm was then applied to find the shortest path. We are interested in transforming this concept into a product ready to be implemented at our maritime customers. In this graduation project, you are going to evaluate the original concept and build on it, by improving it and adding new functionality. We invite you to be creative. Therefore, we are also open to a completely new concept that needs to be built from scratch. The focus of this graduation project is on a combination of data science, software development, operations research and consultancy.

If you are interested, we would like to receive your resume, motivation and grade list. You can send your application to recruitment@ortec.com. If you want to know more about the possibilities or need more information, then please contact Gordon Boon (Recruiter).
