WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH

You will be based in either London or Amsterdam and will report directly to our public, social & state-owned sector risk manager.

You will be part of the risk function, whose mission is to enable McKinsey’s client impact and innovation, while managing risks to the firm, our clients, and our people. The function is a highly integrated global team, with backgrounds including communications, consulting, diplomacy, government, government affairs, and law.

You will work closely with the public & social sector practice and state-owned enterprise service line – across client-serving partners and wider colleagues – as well as with the firm’s board and risk committees, and with other professionals including our communications and legal teams.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

You will help lead the risk function’s work in the public, social & state-owned sectors (PSSS) in EMEA across the four “pillars” of our risk model – advice, governance, awareness, and assurance.

Advice will be the primary focus of the role. You will act as peer counselor to McKinsey partners – including firm, office, practice and client service team leaders – on a wide range of complex, significant risk issues. You will proactively identify prospective PSSS client work, advise partners and team on potential risks, identify and implement safeguarding actions, and document our approach. You will raise higher-risk cases to our client service risk committee and support discussions by preparing briefings, contributing to problem-solving, and supporting the implementation of decisions.

You will help evolve and shape our approach to risk, by providing transparency on risks we face in our work in PSSS – including a monthly dashboard to leadership, prioritizing actions to address them, and leading policy reviews and projects for the firm’s board. Additionally, you will help shape our awareness-raising on PSSS risk in EMEA, including learning programs, training, and internal communications campaigns.

Lastly, you will help develop processes to ensure consistent application of PSSS policies & guidelines, working closely with a growing team of office- or regionally-based compliance colleagues.
