Overall Mission

To help ensure 3M non-manufacturing sites in the UK are compliant with all legislative and corporate requirements relating to Facilities Maintenance, Engineering and Safe

Job Responsibilities

Responsible for engineering aspects of EHS compliance on site including:

  • The Issue and authorisation of Engineering and EHS documentation
  • Primary liaison between site management and the EHS organisation for site engineering aspects
  • Travel between 3M locations to provide on-site support for the management of Engineering tasks and documentation. (Approximately 3 days per week)
  • Maintain engineering legislative compliance through:
  • Management and maintenance of site 3M Legislative Documentation files
  • Compliance with UK statutory requirements and corporate requirements
  • Compliance with applicable 3M engineering standards
  • Provide and present relevant information for audit purposes
  • Develop and implement site engineering SOP’s 
  • Responsible for all facilities, utilities and infrastructure maintenance:
  • Develop, plan and implement suitable PM schedules to confirm ongoing safety, compliance and reliability
  • Coordination of service contracts and associated service providers
  • Collate, arrange and confirm completion of reactive/corrective work
  • Maintain relevant SAP modules, processes and data to be current and compliant
  • Develop and implement facilities and equipment renewal program and spares requirements
  • Coordinate small engineering improvement/upgrade projects related to facilities, utilities and infrastructure
  • Carry out hands-on maintenance tasks when necessary.
  • Energy Management
  • Monitor and trend utility usage
  • Identify and implement improvement projects
  • Act as primary site liaison to UK Energy champion

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Able to manage processes for planned and reactive maintenance with experience operating a CMMS platform for asset management and maintenance
  • Managing Contractor EHS
  • Understanding of legislative compliance and the legal duties/obligations
  • Understand and challenge method statements and risk assessments (RAMS)
  • Review quotes, interpret requirements and pull together cost information
  • Read and understand technical drawings, information and O&M manuals 
  • Converse and communicate at all levels of the organisation
  • Conversant with Microsoft Office applications
  • UK Driving Licence essential


  • Practical engineering background with  experience coordinating maintenance activity
  • Nationally recognised engineering/facilities qualification
  • Preferable to have electrical qualification and experience (with the ability to manage electrical works and interpret reports) and IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent)
  • Desirable to have specific qualifications related to applicable legislation e.g. Management of asbestos, Management of Legionella, LOLER, PSSR etc.
