Description of the job

Duration: 12 Months
Within the domain of Quality Assurance the Materials Laboratories at Airbus Operations Limited supports the whole of Broughton Site and our external customers and suppliers with regards to three specific work areas;
Carrying out all testing of a mechanical nature in addition to the control of heat treatments and performance checks of equipment. Typical testing such as tensile, shear, on aluminium, steel and carbon fibre composite
Control of chemical processes, analysis of factory effluent, environmental testing and advice, testing of a chemical nature and associated performance checks of equipment.
Investigation of product / material non-conformance, predominantly aluminium and CFRP materials, approval of specialist manufacturing personnel, inspection for machine abuse and assessment of suppliers technical capabilities.
The department is at the forefront of todays technological needs and instrumentations such as FTIR, ICP, IC, DSC 3D microscopes and SEMs are predominant in our environment.
Tasks & accountabilities
To undertake investigations with regards to Surface Engineering and Materials Science disciplines. Predominantly working with Aluminum materials however knowledge of steels, titanium and composites appreciated.
Project is anticipated to be centered on (1) corrosion evaluation and root cause nature on aluminium materials and also the (2) effects of chemical anodising on aluminium materials.
Interface with Operational Teams and integrate with support functions.
Gather data through interviews, experiments and investigations
To deliver a full report and presentation on the project(s) in line with Customer and, if appropriate, University Guidelines.
This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Company’s success, reputation and sustainable growth.
You must be an undergraduate for the full duration of the placement studying towards a degree in Materials Science, Surface Engineering or similar.

Use of Scanning Electron Microscopes an advantage
Up to date knowledge of Microsoft Packages or Google Suite
