WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?
Steering and aligning of matter at the microscale is being actively pursued in many areas such as lithography, surface design and bioengineering. To a large extent the reason is the unfulfilled promise of the new applications that could be created from achieving single particle control at each scale. At the materials solutions department within TNO we work in between upcoming technologies and promising applications with industrial relevance. Our department has a large track record of particle synthesis varying in both size and morphology of organic and inorganic particles. Often such particles are found in between amorphous dispersion and emulsion where orderly structures were not taken into account. At present various high demanding applications are requiring that particles are aligned and follow specific patterns which will enable the features needed for a given functionality. In this assignment we aim at combining our extensive experience of particle synthesis with recently acquired state-of-the-art setup for colloidal particle manipulation.
For this internship you might expect tasks such as:

WHAT DO WE REQUIRE OF YOU?
You are a proactive and independent MSc student with background in one of the following areas Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry or similar. At the same time, you are seeking for an interdisciplinary and challenging environment within applied research. A hands-on mentality is a must. Knowledge or experience in colloidal synthesis is a plus, but certainly not mandatory. Good communication skills in English, particularly for presenting your work and writing reports is expected.
