We have an exciting opportunity for a Supplier Quality Engineer to join our Next Generation Products (NGP) Commercialisation team, based in London. 

 The NGP organisation represents a multi-functional business with accountability to manage the successful commercialisation of nicotine and non-combustible tobacco products. This includes ownership for the commercial plans, product development and ongoing supply.  As part of that organisation, NGP Operations has the accountability to commercialise, produce and ultimately manage the ongoing supply of NGP products into market. 

The delivery team supports the overall function by ensuring that products are compliant to Quality, Cost and Delivery (QCD) by ensuring overall Operational readiness. This includes cost and productivity improvements, the delivery of subsequent capacity increases and the timely resolution of supplier quality issues.

Principal accountabilities 

Reporting to the External Delivery Manager, the Supply & Demand Engineer is responsible for:

  • The Operations coordination and Supply Chain readiness of new complex project initiatives – the enablement of the systems, processes and people that support the ongoing supply and management of new products into the market.
  • The delivery and management of an effective and flexible supply base that supports ongoing supply from NGP Operations Continuous Improvement.
  • Ensure the effective and robust handover from the NPI first launch to BAU Delivery and ongoing supply.
  • The analysis, validation and conformance of supplier process capacity versus BAT demand across the supply base. Ensuring the synergy between systems is maintained and improved on a continuous basis.
  • Monitoring and managing lead times, WIP, Inventory across the supplier base.
  • Ensuring changes to the supply plan are considered against potential impact, understood and managed effectively.
  • Auditing, reviewing and recommending process management to ensure the credibility of delivery promises.
  • Building on existing and new supplier relationships through education, support and motivation.
  • Ensuring strong and focused liaison with all BAT functions directly and indirectly related to the product, process and deliverables.
  • Mentoring of junior team members to assist in their progression of their skills
  • Driving, on a weekly basis, Quality Cost and Delivery best practice at the supplier.
  • Given the supply base is primarily outside the UK, the role is associated with a reasonable amount of travel overseas and time based outside the office.

Essential requirements

  • Project Management and New Product Introduction experience.
  • Production Planning experience.
  • Experience using APQP, FMEA, RCA or similar techniques.
  • Lean Six Sigma or relevant continuous improvement tools.
  • The ability to call and facilitate effective reviews both internally and with the supply chain, prioritising actions and allocating accountability is fundamental to delivering the targets we set.
  • The ability to achieve results effectively and aggressively without disrupting performance or relationships
  • The ability to present the information to their peers and suppliers.
