Job title: UK & Ireland - Finance - Summer Internship Programme - London - 2019
Job description:
Finance
Join our ten week paid internship in Finance and get your career off to a flying start.
You’ll gain valuable experience in the evolving world of financial services, and be perfectly placed to join our graduate programme the following year.
About the business area
Finance ties together all the financial activity across our business. We’re here to manage our balance sheet, report on our performance and understand our customers’ needs to make the right decisions.
It’s integral to meeting our ambitions, doing the right thing and protecting our customers’ interest.
Our customers expect us to manage their money correctly and we provide the right information so our colleagues make clear decisions about customers, costs and capital. We’re helping to achieve our business goals so we can be sustainable and develop the right long-term financial strategy.
About the programme
We’ve designed our ten week summer internship in Finance to give you direct experience of the work we do, our goals and our collaborative team culture.
Our programme gives you a unique opportunity to quickly gain experience and insight into the financial services industry, our products and our operation. You’ll also interact with and learn from respected industry leaders.
We’ll reward you with a salary of £21,500 pro rata, depending on location.
For the full ten weeks, we’ll pair you with a ‘buddy’ and a line manager who’ll both give you the help and encouragement you’ll need. Your buddy’s going to be a current graduate, who’ll help you get settled and share their experience and, your line manager will provide guidance and support throughout the programme, discuss career options and help you grow your professional network.
Our programme starts off with an induction day which covers:
•An introduction to RBS, our values and our ambitions
•Development workshops so you can hit the ground running
•Networking opportunities with your fellow interns and our business colleagues
You’ll then begin your ten week placement, where you’ll attend training workshops, get involved with our day to day work, and take part in a business improvement project with your fellow interns. The project’s a chance to complete research on a topic and come up with recommendations for improvement or changes we should make to better support our ambitions.
You’ll also work on a corporate social responsibility challenge by devising a business plan for our chosen charity; contribute to a valuable cause, too. The challenge will help you gain confidence with skills like:
•Team work
•Planning and strategy
•Creative thinking
•Problem solving
•Communication
At the end of the placement, you’ll be assessed on what you’ve learned. Complete this successfully and you’ll be offered a place on our 2020 Finance graduate programme, where you can carry the skills you’ve learned forward and take the next exciting step in your career.
About you
To be eligible for this internship, you’ll need to be in your penultimate year of a university degree, and on course to achieve a 2:1.
We’ll be looking out for people with:
•Sharp analytical skills
•Long term, strategic thinking
•An inquisitive and creative mind-set
•Excellent communication skills
•Confident in networking and relationship building
If that sounds like you, then why not apply?
At Royal Bank of Scotland we’re committed to helping Scottish businesses grow.
