Opcare, part of the international healthcare company Ability Matters Group, is one of the largest suppliers of artificial limb services to the NHS in England. The company is now looking to recruit an Orthotic Technician at its prosthetic/orthotic clinical and manufacturing contract situated at Queen Mary’s Hospital Roehampton. This is located within the main rehabilitation unit in the lower ground floor of the hospital, providing a manufacturing and clinical base for both prosthetic limbs and orthotic appliances.

In principle, the role is to fabricate, maintain, and repair orthoses according to specifications:

Tasks and Responsibilities will include:

  • Repairs/Adjustments of orthoses
  • Manufacture of orthoses to specification
  • Use modern tools and special materials to develop orthoses
  • Pay careful attention to detailed instructions

Previous experience is not essential as full in-house training is provided. It is desirable that applicants have workshop/practical skills and an understanding of health and safety. Experience working with plastics/resins and vacuum forming techniques would also be an advantage as would an interest in CAD/CAM.
