Responsibilities

Public Relations & Communications

If you are curious about how reputation is built, maintained and defended, there could be a home for you in the UK Comms team. We span the entire business from Xbox to datacentres, from Brexit to Quantum Computing. We build and tell great stories to everyone in the UK – whether they are journalists, Youtubers, CEOs, software developers, gamers or even your family. It’s a fast-paced, challenging and creative environment but above all you will have fun! For anyone interested in a career in PR and communications, this is an unparalleled opportunity to gain experience inside a busy and high-profile comms team. You will work in rotation across different parts of the business, each time in partnership with a senior and experienced comms professional who leads that area. You will learn how to work on crisis comms, business-to-business comms, business-to-consumer comms, gaming comms, govt affairs and more…. This is a hand-on role suited to someone energetic, proactive and with tons of curiosity. This is not a tea-making internship.

Qualifications

What qualities do we look for in our people?

  • Team Player: driving digital transformation with our customers is a team sport. We need teammates who can stay maniacally focused on our customers' satisfaction while operating in a highly-collaborative, matrixed global organization.
  • Growth Mindset: your life is truly about learning-it-all. You approach every new piece of information, knowledge, and competency with insatiable curiosity. Ultimately, you're open to the ideas of others, where the success of others does not diminish your own.
  • Resourceful: you have the drive to overcome any obstacle in your work.
  • Customer Focused: you learn about your customers and their businesses with a beginner's mind and then bring solutions that meet their needs.
  • Pure Challenge: demonstrated desire and ability to readily take on complex challenges and work towards solutions to seemingly unsolvable problems.

In the UK we share Microsoft’s global vision to empower every person and organisation to achieve more; but we also pursue a wide range of initiatives with particular resonance and relevance to the UK. From working responsibly and sustainably to ensuring that the technology we create makes life better - not just for our customers, partners and employees, but for everyone. That’s why we are constantly investing in three key areas:

- In Education
We are born to learn.
At Microsoft, we understand the real value of technology lies in the skills it builds, the opportunities it creates, and the horizons it broadens. That’s why we are empowering the education community with a wide range of products, services and programmes that help transform learning and make it more accessible.

- In Business
We are driven to succeed.
Whether supporting start-ups and SMEs, promoting apprenticeships though our Partner network, or reimagining business productivity in radical new ways, Microsoft UK is all about ensuring today’s workplace really does ‘work’ for everyone.

- In Society
We are committed to people.
In ensuring all our products, processes and practices are safe, secure and always accessible, we're proud to work with many leading charities, businesses and organisations committed to the same high ethical standards. These are just some of the ideals we champion in spirit and action.
