Job Description

If you can design utility-scale solar projects, this is a great chance to join New Energies, a small but influential Shell team with the power to impact the future of energy. You’ll be helping us meet the growing global demand for energy in new, innovative ways.

Where you fit in

Through collaboration, fresh ideas and innovation, Shell is finding new and better ways to unlock energy sources and meet growing world demand. It’s our aim to provide customers, large and small, with clean, affordable and reliable energy. We recognise that Solar PV will play a major role in tomorrow’s energy systems – that’s why we’re investing in developing solar PV projects, building a solar development and asset management capability and cultivating positive industry partnerships in this field.

What’s the role?

As our Lead Solar Engineer, you’ll help turn good ideas on paper into practical solutions on the ground, for solar PV projects in Europe (mainly Italy, Spain, France and Netherlands). You’ll spend around a quarter of your time travelling to these sites.

Your role is to design utility scale and C&I type projects in Europe. Your remit includes creating production estimates, high-level schedules and cost roadmaps and identifying the optimum equipment (modules, inverter, structure). You’ll also prepare technical documents to gain the necessary permits and interconnection agreements and provide engineering support at all stages of projects – that means managing external consultants/OEs and troubleshooting any construction or performance issues.

Company Description

Shell Nederland BV is a platform for international collaboration, with Shell offering direct employment to around ten thousand people in the Netherlands alone, including roughly 2,800 non-Dutch employees from around 80 countries. Diversity is key at Shell Nederland, and our employees reflect the innovation that stems from a diverse workforce. By joining Shell Nederland, you will benefit from an unrivalled industry-leading development programme that will see you tap into a pool of expert knowledge that will help propel your career. Shell Nederland is the holding company of most Shell companies operating in the Netherlands. Shell Nederland also has an advisory and coordinating role in numerous areas.

Requirements

What we need from you

Alongside your Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (or equivalent) you’ll bring us a fair amount of hands-on experience in the design and engineering of solar projects. You’ve shown you can work collaboratively on solar industry projects involving technical consultants, owner’s engineers (OE) and independent engineers (IE). If you’re familiar with how local permitting and grid connection requirements vary from location to location that would be a huge plus – as would familiarity with modelling and estimation software such as PVsyst, PlantPredict or NREL SAM.

Personally, perhaps the biggest asset you can bring us is your ability to work efficiently and productively in remote locations. We’re keen to hear from men and women with the natural communications skills to present ideas clearly –

on paper and in person, to technical and non-technical people, across different working cultures. In addition to that it would be ideal if you are familiar with Spanish language.

At Shell, we believe everyone has a part to play in the global transition to cleaner energy. We’re looking for students and graduates, whose energy and passion for change can help us achieve our goals of providing more and cleaner energy solutions.
We have a range of opportunities, assessed internships and graduate programmes for you to explore. Discover your potential and join us on our journey to develop tomorrow’s energy solutions today.
