The Protein Engineering research group is concerned with enhancing the affinity and specificity of T-cell receptors (TCRs) for their target cancer peptide–HLA complexes. Thus, we are seeking an experienced molecular biologist to join a multi-disciplinary protein engineering team aimed at delivering optimised functional TCRs to the discovery pipeline. The contract will be for 12 months to cover maternity leave, aiming to start December 2018/January 2019.

A flexible, enthusiastic, creative attitude to work, good data management and presentation skills, and attention to detail are crucial. The aptitude to interface with colleagues cross-functionally, good time-management and the ability to work to deadlines are also important, as is careful documentation of laboratory work in an electronic notebook.

Adaptimmune offers the opportunity to take part in pioneering the commercial development of T-cell therapy. The Company has an inventive and collaborative culture, where employees are valued and inspired as well as rewarded for their ideas and contributions, and encouraged to make both individual and team contributions towards scientific excellence.

Skills required

We are particularly interested in applicants who can demonstrate strong technical skills in many aspects of molecular and cell biology, with an understanding of protein biochemistry.

Essential:

· Experience in molecular biology (PCR, DNA mutagenesis, cloning methods)

· mammalian cell culture

· and ideally, flow cytometry.

Desirable:

· A knowledge of recombinant protein expression, purification, and engineering is preferable. However, in-house training can be provided where necessary.

Applicants for the Scientist position should have at least a BSc, although an MSc, PhD or similar research experience is highly desirable. For a Senior Scientist position, applicants should have a PhD with some post-doctoral experience, or equivalent levels of research experience in an academic or industrial research lab environment.

Hepatitis B vaccination may be required and costs will be covered by Adaptimmune if necessary.

Our proprietary SPEAR T-cell platform has generated a strong pipeline of affinity-enhanced T-cell therapies, with multiple INDs open. We use these therapies to harness the body's own immune system to find and destroy diseased cells. Our SPEAR TCR therapies offer promise to patients that often have no other options. We are working hard to make that promise a reality.

We are based in the UK, in Oxford, and in the US, in Philadelphia.
