Primary Responsibility

The goal of the Stem Cell Research team is to produce an ‘off the shelf’ allogeneic T-cell product derived from a stem cell source. If successful this will replace the autologous approach we currently use and significantly reduce the time/cost to treat patients.

The primary purpose of this role is to provide routine lab maintenance and conduct routine experiments to support the Stem Cell Research team as directed by the line manager (Scientist) with limited supervision. The team is concerned with the testing and validation of stem cell lines that will be generated from external collaboration. Once fully characterised, stem cells will be released for onward T cell differentiation, with further testing of those expressing optimised engineered T-cell receptors, for selection as a preclinical candidate for the treatment of various cancers.

The TCR-transduced, stem cell derived T cells will then be assessed in an extensive potency and safety preclinical package, and transferred to a dedicated process development team for scale-up and manufacture. Activities in support of these different functions within the Universal Cell project will be the main role of the applicant. The job holder will be responsible for the interpretation of scientific results under the supervision of their line manager.

Key Responsibilities

1 60%: Conducting cell biology techniques such as cell culture of stem cell lines and primary cells, lentivirus production and transduction of cells, PBMC preps and cell subset isolation from whole blood, and some flow cytometry and ELISA/ELISpot to support scientists and the Group as a whole.

2 20%: Routine lab maintenance. Duties to include: consumables ordering, lab cleaning and maintenance, preparing stock solutions, communal reagents and media, waste management autoclaving, and stock checking,

3 15%: Analyse, summarise and record experimental results, and maintain relevant databases and records.

4 5%: Participate in project meetings and discussions.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

· Undergraduate degree in Lifesciences or related discipline, with some relevant postgraduate laboratory experience.

· Ability to work independently on routine experiments with limited supervision.

· Ability to learn and develop in order to work independently on routine experiments within a reasonable time frame.

· Experience of laboratory procedures, with previous stem cell culture experience (i.e. maintenance and characterisation of stem cell lines).

Desirable

· Additional post-graduate scientific experience or qualifications, such as an M.Sc.

Skills & Competencies

Required

· Computer literate and ability to familiarise with different IT systems

· Good numeracy and English language skills (both written and verbal)

· Good communication skills (both written and verbal)

· Ability to follow protocols.

· Knowledge and skills to use of standard laboratory equipment (such as pipettes, pH meters, centrifuges).

· Basic experimental design skills (use of controls, etc.), attention to detail, good time management skills, team player attitude.

· Able to work independently after training.

Desirable

· Use of more specialist lab equipment (flow cytometers, ELISA plate readers).

Adaptimmune, a leader in T-cell therapy, is a multinational, clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing novel immunotherapies using its proprietary SPEAR T-cell receptor platform to treat solid tumors, which has the potential to transform the treatment of cancer.

Our proprietary SPEAR T-cell platform has generated a strong pipeline of affinity-enhanced T-cell therapies, with multiple INDs open. We use these therapies to harness the body's own immune system to find and destroy diseased cells. Our SPEAR TCR therapies offer promise to patients that often have no other options. We are working hard to make that promise a reality.

We are based in the UK, in Oxford, and in the US, in Philadelphia.
