The Analytical Chemist will be responsible for working in partnership with our product development and research groups to provide technical support through research, development and testing. Apply critical problem solving skills and use an array of analytical instrumentation to obtain solutions. Be accountable for collaborating with the internal and external scientific community to maintain and grow cutting edge analysis that enables the business to have a competitive advantage.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide analytical support to Research & Development and operational activities.
  • Suggest and implement improvements to existing products, processes and equipment.
  • Generate, organise, interpret and report data in support of technical projects and service requests.
  • Develop solutions to problems.
  • Plan and implement tasks to clearly defined projects.
  • Support product development and research teams.
  • Communicate responses to requests through written scientific reports, oral presentations, electronic media etc..
  • Ability to translate technical information to a variety of audiences, technical/non-technical, different scientific background and commercial based.
  • Develop scientific curiosity though establishing internal and external networks.
  • Coach and mentor new talent to promote their development.
  • Liaise with external instrument vendors and suppliers in support of capital investments
  • Interface effectively within the Blend Test Services Department, Operations, R&D, product development groups and, when required, external customers.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

  • BSc in Chemistry based subject essential, a PhD is desired.
  • Thorough understanding of basic analytical methodology.
  • Strong technical knowledge of at least two of the following areas of analysis is essential, chromatographic (HPLC, GC), mass spectrometry, thermal (DSC, TGA), elemental analysis and infrared spectroscopy.
  • Previous experience of working within a laboratory environment with strong, practical laboratory skills, able to work logically and interpret data.
  • Able to effectively communicate with both technology based customers, as well as customers from a commercial environment.
  • Establish networks across the organisation to develop technical knowledge and promote opportunities for self-development.
  • Knowledge of lubricants and/or lubricant additives is desirable.
  • Must be self-motivated with the ability to handle, organize and prioritize multiple tasks and be able to perform under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Project management experience.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to build relationships with colleagues at multiple levels of an organisation.
  • Promotes and displays adherence to safety and quality best practices.
