The Tech Lead role is all about technical leadership on the challenges we face in building our new omnichannel microservices platform.

As a Tech Lead at the Jumbo Tech Campus Digital department, you work with multiple development teams and team leads to facilitate alignment with the shared goals that we have as a department. You work together with our pathfinders to form the future architecture of the e-commerce landscape and transform that vision into concrete steps our teams can take to achieve it.

Your job is diverse, as you work with different groups of teams, depending on where help is needed. You rotate with your peers to get a firm knowledge of the whole e-commerce landscape. Your most important work, however, is to help the teams, and team leads. This can be done with hands-on work with the engineers to design and create solutions, but also by talking to the product owners or presenting plans to stakeholders.

Your main tasks for this role:

  • Create an overview of our current architecture
  • Create plans to achieve our future architecture
  • Facilitate alignment between teams to execute plans and work towards our shared goals
  • Improve learning cycles within the department
  • Foster innovation by experimenting

You work with a small group of peers (2 or 3 colleagues) to make sure that these plans are aligned across the department and to make sure that all steps taken are beneficial for all development teams. You work directly with the development manager, who will support you in your professional development.

We are looking for a Tech Lead who likes to:

  • Work with teams and team leads to solving technical challenges
  • Coach teams and engineers and provide them with feedback
  • Work with peers, team leads and pathfinders to create and continuously improve plans to get to our future architecture
  • Proactively help our product owners with their roadmap, by simplifying solutions and giving the correct attention to the technical quality of the product
  • Experiment with technology, for example by prototyping concepts
  • Play an active role in our backend chapter, showing a good example, encouraging members, and positively reinforcing initiatives

Mandatory skills/work experience:

  • A background as a software developer and at least 1 year of experience in a similar role (tech lead, software architect)
  • Working with multiple teams on the same product
  • Work experience in an e-commerce environment
  • You can demonstrate that you were able to simplify complex architecture and help teams become more productive

  • Simplify things for engineers, team leads, and stakeholders
  • Break down technical concepts and explain them to (non-technical) stakeholders

  • Recognize areas where knowledge is lacking and organize to solve it
  • Push technological innovation and advancement
  • Actively look for feedback
  • Apply different leadership styles depending on the situation
