Shell Asset Management Company B.V. (SAMCo) in The Hague is the dedicated in-house asset manager for the pension funds of the Shell plc group. SAMCo currently manages around USD 80 billion of assets for its clients and has approximately 160 employees. On behalf of its clients, SAMCo invests in fixed income, equities, and alternative investment categories such as private equity and hedge funds, all over the world.

The 17-people strong Fixed Income department manages the developed market sovereign, emerging market sovereign and corporate credit debt portfolios. Through inhouse research, the team develops a diversified set of fundamental and algorithm-based strategies to meet the clients’ return targets, risk profiles and ESG ambitions. These strategies are implemented using a broad range of instruments, like bonds, loans, interest rate swaps and futures, and credit default swaps.

We are looking to recruit a Quantitative Analyst to join the Fixed Income Department. You will be joining six colleagues focusing on the around EUR 11 billion global portfolio of investment grade and high yield corporate debt, across Europe, the US and emerging market countries.

What’s the role?

You will be assisting the portfolio management process from day one and thus gain immediate hands-on experience. As a quantitative analyst, you will:

  • Maintain existing and develop new quantitative tools to optimize portfolio implementation, like factor premium-based issuer selection, instrument selection and portfolio construction models
  • Implement rule-based quantitative strategies
  • Contribute to the development of new investment strategies using econometric and machine learning techniques, together with the Artificial Intelligence & Quantitative Research team
  • Support the clients’ ESG ambitions by further integrating ESG in the investment process
  • Build your network of contacts in the fixed income market, including representatives of banks and brokers, research providers and other asset managers.

In this role you will have a comprehensive on-boarding program, with guidance and support from senior portfolio managers. Due to the breadth and freedom of our mandate we can provide you a broad education of asset management and an opportunity to contribute to the investment process. Naturally, SAMCo will facilitate a VBA or CFA education, as well as support various hard and soft-skill courses.

What we need from you

We are looking for a new colleague with a quantitative background, who has a strong interest in financial markets. We hope to see the following on your resume:

  • A Master’s degree in financial mathematics, quantitative economics, the exact sciences or similar education
  • Strong programming skills in Python and proficient knowledge of quantitative techniques
  • Experience as an analyst, risk manager, data scientist or similar quantitative position is preferred. A finance background is, however, not required if you have a willingness to learn about investing
  • A strong analytical and problem-solving mindset, allowing you to translate theoretical research in implementable strategies, coupled with an ability to work accurately and independently
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate well in a team environment with people from a diverse range of backgrounds and cultures

A competitive remuneration package based on the prevailing conditions, policies and legislation in the Netherlands will be offered for this position.
