Company is private equity owned, has some 30 locations globally and employs appr. 1.200 personnel. The Dutch location is in Zaanstad and employs 120 persons, of which 45 work in production. The Dutch plant develops, sells and assembles machinery for food production. Half the turnover is new build production equipment, the other half concerns retrofits (upgrading existing machinery) and spare parts for maintenance. The procurement manager emphasizes that it has the feel of a really Dutch company.
Procurement
The procurement manager reports into the Operations director. His team consists of 4 buyers, of which 2 are technical, and 2 assistents. One technical buyer is focused on E parts and the other on custom made parts. The other 2 buyers procure catalogue parts. Recently he has obtained approval to expand his team by one Technical Senior/Lead buyer. Technical goods procured are e.g. coolers, gearboxes, drive lines, E-motors, housing. A great variety of parts and subassemblies. The procurement manager yearly drafts a procurement plan, together with his team and his main stakeholders. Contracts are solely in place with the most strategic suppliers. Otherwise agreements consist of the main issues, such a specs, price, Inco terms, delivery time. Many suppliers are based in Eastern Europe, to a lesser degree in Southern and Middle Europe.
Position
In this position you are responsible for:
- Procurement of make parts and/or subassemblies
- Contract manufacturing/outsourcing of production and/or assembly of entire machines
- Assisting the innovation process by sourcing the right potential suppliers.
You are expected to get into close contact with engineering, be able to steer on cost and makeability of the designs and specs that you receive and handle the supplier relation for the strategic parts and modules, from sourcing via supplier selection and qualification to negotiating and contracting and finally supplier management. On top of this you are end responsible for operational procurement, planning, stock parameters, forecasting. These tasks are on a day to day basis executed by the assistants and the SAP system, you need to check the results. You set the stock parameters. Your spend responsibility is appr. € 30 mio/yr. The first projects you will become involved in, are engineering projects focused on the improvement of output and/or performance (e.g. lower energy conspumption) of existing machinery. Your KPI’s will be the improved contracting of suppliers, the negotiation results you are able to obtain and your ability to find, select and contract new suppliers up to first successful deliveries. International travel will take appr. 5% of your time.

- A technical background: a technical diploma and/or sound experience working in a technical environment and dealing with engineering
- You can read technical drawings, both mechanical and electronic
- Commercial experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong communicator, analytic
- Fluent in Dutch and English.
Offer
Depending on your experience and background, your salary can be max. € 85.000 gross/year. A discretionary bonus applies, based on company performance and your appraisal. You will get 27+13 vacation days, a mobility allowance, a good pension (middelloon) and 52% of the pension premium is paid by the employer.
