Job Purpose

When exporting products, businesses must be compliant with export control and sanction regulations and other export control regimes. The Head of Export Control is responsible for an effective export control and sanctions framework for all business and functions to ensure compliance with the more and more complex regulatory framework of export control and sanctions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and (people) manage the Global Export Control Group;
  • Assure an effective export control framework for AkzoNobel, including clear export control roles and responsibilities, adequate embedding of product classification in business systems, effective operation of AEB shipment screening tool, adequate license processes and appropriate record keeping structure;
  • Maintain optimal inhouse knowledge of developments in the Export Control regulatory landscape;
  • Assure the continual development of effective Export Control awareness and training programs, including business and functional leadership, legal, the sales and marketing community and integrated supply chain;
  • Conduct annual risk assessment and evaluation of the effectiveness of the export control framework;
  • Continuously improve and maintain Sensitive Countries procedures, including if applicable the design, implementation and execution of recusal policies;
  • Coach and challenges other to derive contingency plans that ensure program goals can be met;
  • Develop and foster a broad base of external peer-to-peer relationships; brings together individuals with diverse perspectives across AN reach optimal export control compliance

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master degree, preferably in Trade Compliance, Risk and Compliance, or Legal, and at least 10 of work experience in export control compliance, working in a similar role as offered for several years
  • Extensive working experience in a multinational, preferably a Fortune 500 company;
  • Extensive experience in people management, having led a team of at least 5 employees for several years;
  • In depth knowledge of global/regional sanctions regimes including but not limited to EU, UK and US
  • Specific knowledge of EU dual-use regulations, US EAR/ITAR
  • An understanding of licensing authorities and general licensing requirements (EU, UK, ITAR)
  • Working knowledge of multilateral export control regimes (eg. CWC, NSG, Wassenaar Arrangement)
  • Experience of interpreting and implementing sanctions measures into business operations
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, able to work accurate and independently;
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and stakeholder management skills;
  • High level of project management skills;
  • Able to network and cooperate with people inside businesses and functions;
  • An inquisitive nature and commitment to understand the needs of stakeholders and continuous improvement;
  • Business and solution oriented mindset (able to think ‘beyond the protocol’ in problem solving);
  • Excellent sense of work prioritization
