Shell Asset Management Company BV (SAMCo) is the in-house asset manager of the Shell Plc group and provides high quality and cost-effective investment advice and asset management services to its clients. SAMCo is supervised by the Authority for the Financial Markets and the Dutch Central Bank. The total AuM is around USD 100 billion. SAMCo invests in Bonds, Equities, (Cleared) OTC & ETD Derivatives, and Alternative Investments like Private Equity, Real Estate and Hedge Funds globally. Continuous change in financial markets and regulations as well as the diversity of SAMCo’s clients and the products they invest in, makes it a professionally challenging environment to work in.

Within SAMCo, the Head Operations has overall responsibility over 18 persons, consisting of a Settlements team and a Corporate Actions (CA), Static Data and Reconciliation team, each headed by a supervisor.

Adequate and secure communication (internal and external) between the teams and other departments within SAMCo is crucial for an optimal day-to-day process.

The Corporate Actions, Static Data and Reconciliation team is responsible for collecting, monitoring, instructing, and processing all corporate actions and income on the holdings of its clients. Additionally, the team advises Portfolio Managers as to which decisions to make regarding Corporate Actions. Furthermore, they are responsible for updating all Static data issues in SimCorp Dimension. Static data can be security related, but also involves settlement details of counterparties and relevant information of the clients themselves.

Besides aforementioned, the cash- and holding reconciliation of the clients takes place in this team.

We are currently looking for an Officer CA, Static Data and Recon. This role carries responsibility for executing the daily activities for a specific asset class or market.

What’s the role?

Your prime responsibility would be to analyse and process the corporate actions in the CA Manager of SimCorp Dimension. The overall process is automated to a great extent, but still involves liaising with Portfolio Managers about optional Corporate Actions and instructing the custodian. All activities must be executed in an adequate and timely manner.

Furthermore, the Officer CA & SD is responsible for the outstanding items relating to corporate actions and income that appear in the cash- and holdings reconciliation. Identifying, solving and assigning reconciliation breaks are part of the daily process.

Besides above mentioned, there is also a responsibility for inputting and updating the static data of all security and settlement related issues.

Considering the activities involved, the Officer CA & SD frequently has a role in the various projects within Operations / SAMCo.

Key Deliverables:

  • Ensuring timely and accurate processing of Corporate Actions

  • Ensuring timely and accurate processing of Static Data issues

  • Ensuring timely and accurate processing of Reconciliation Breaks

  • Liaiseing with relevant departments (in- and outside SAMCo)

  • Identifying and solve issues pertaining to Cash and Holding reconciliation breaks

  • Ensuring flawless operations with significant financial value at stake and at times under serious time pressure. [Operations works under daily time limits and the cost of failure of big trades can be tens of thousands of Euro’s per trade]

  • Actively participating in (cross) departmental projects

  • Actively pursueing process improvements

Key Challenges:

  • A keen eye for detail and excellent time management and communication skills coupled with the ability to work under pressure are essential.

  • The ability to proactively handle adhoc issues / exceptions as they arise, understand the potential financial impact to clients and follow issues through to resolution quickly.

  • The ability to negotiate and resolve issues. Both internally as well as externally.

What we need from you

You’ll ideally have:

  • Preferably some experience in the Finance, Economy or the Asset Management industry within Operations

  • Minimum HBO level of education

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Good written and spoken English and the ability to communicate clearly

  • Understanding of the impact of control frameworks.

  • Affinity and intermediate knowledge of IT – tools such as Excel, Alteryx, Power BI, Python etc.

  • Experience with back-office systems such as Simcorp Dimension is advantageous.
