We exist to rewrite the rules of insurance so it’s something people stand with, not against.

Our story began in 2017 when we set out to transform bicycle insurance by connecting passionate cyclists all over the UK to form a collective and protect their bikes. A better model for insurance was born.

Fast forward to today and we’ve:

  • Captured the enthusiast cyclist market, expanded into commercial business partnering and quickly become leaders in last-minute insurance
  • Launched in 5 territories and are continuing to expand across Europe
  • Been awarded 'Best Cycle Insurance Provider' (for the past 4 years in a row)
  • Opened office in London, Bristol & Amsterdam, and enabled a remote-first way of working

Help us change an outdated industry...

We’re growing real fast on our path to make the Laka collective model the industry standard and we’re expanding across segments, products, and territories. We’re looking for innovative, bold and brave minds to help us build the world’s best insurance company.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity to join us to take ownership of our NL (and potentially EU in the future) accounting. Working with the Finance team in the UK, you'll be responsible for the delivery of all accounting activities for our two Dutch entities, taking on more challenges as the business continues to expand.

We're looking for someone to join the team on a part-time basis - either 2, 3 or 4 days per week.

Ideally we're looking for someone based in or around the Amsterdam area, who is happy to spend some time in our central AMS office (we have no minimum number of days in the office).

What you'll be doing

As a Management Accountant you’ll:

  • Dutch accounting (with help from the Finance Assistant on the bookkeeping)
  • Making sure Exact is being used properly, help with cleaning up processes currently used
  • Month end process and reporting - posting journals, reviewing intercompany transactions, credit allocations etc.
  • Investigating monthly variances and provide commentary
  • Tracking NL Legal and Marketing costs with relevant team members
  • Payments & Expenses
  • Work with the accountants on the annual accounts
  • Working with our Finance Assistant on the claims list and commercial partners
  • VAT returns
  • IPT returns
  • Segmented / Partner lead P&Ls
  • Produce management information by territory

Requirements

You’ll be successful here by:

  • Holding a relevant accounting qualification
  • Having experience in a management accounting role, covering all areas of entity accounting
  • Being fully fluent in both Dutch & English
  • Having accounting software experience (e.g. Xero)

And just so you know, Insurance experience isn’t required (for most roles). We’ll teach you anything you need to know and upskill you if needed. But… before you apply, please make sure that you have permission to work in the Netherlands as we’re unable to provide visa sponsorship for any of our current roles.

Benefits

At Laka, we’re passionate about building a culture that cares for our people as much as we care for our customers. Our benefits package currently includes:

  • A remote-first, flexible working environment, built on trust and autonomy
  • 33 days’ annual leave (inc bank holidays), plus mental health days
  • €230 contribution to your home working set up
  • €575 annual personal development allowance
  • Retail discounts programme, provided through CharlieHR Perks at Work
  • €10 per month Laka credit - for all you bike enthusiasts
  • Wellbeing and mental health support, via Spill
  • Access to co-working office spaces, with fun social events, including paid-for weekly team lunches

Started in 2017, Laka set out to transform bicycle insurance by connecting passionate cyclists all over the UK to form a community and protect their bikes. A better model for insurance was born. For once people come first in insurance by fairly sharing the cost amongst each other.
