Service Line Information

The Operational Excellence Hubs (OEH) are one of the three KPMG Business Services (KBS) delivery groups; the other two are Centres of Expertise (CoE) and Business Partners (BP).

OEH plays a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of the business strategy, by providing an excellent, efficient, collaborative service; we are the hidden heroes and experts that enable our customers to excel every day.

The OEH consists of the following Hubs: Business Support Group (secretarial), Create (creative services), CRM (sales management), Finance Operations, People Operations, Talent Acquisition (recruitment operations), Risk Operations and Facilities Operations.

The Hub

ROG is responsible for monitoring the firm’s and its individuals’ compliance with the firm’s professional risk management and quality control policies, procedures, and guidance.

The Group work in collaboration with the wider Risk & Legal community and across the KPMG network to exchange knowledge, develop and improve processes and procedures in response to emerging regulatory, business, and other requirements.

The ROG has an annual gross budget of c4.3 million and consists of c140 team members, on and offshore, grouped into four teams led by dedicated operation’s managers:

  • Client Assessment Team (CAT) responsible for the centralised client risk assessment process and help the firm to appropriately manage risks associated with its clients (e.g. PEPs, Sanctions, Source of Funds) via Client Identification procedures.
  • Sentinel team responsible for the processes relating to the firm’s Sentinel application, a KPMG secure online application developed to assist KPMG member firms in identifying potential conflicts of interest with proposed engagements and in complying with legal and regulatory independence requirements related to the provision of services.
  • 2x Ethics and Independence teams responsible for providing guidance and advice to Partners and the firm’s personnel on personal E&I matters and investments in accordance with regulatory requirements and play an important role in running related processes and procedures to ensure compliance, breakdown of teams below:

  • Partner Independence,
  • Pre-Clearance
  • KPMG Independence Compliance System (KICS) used for employees and partners to record their personal investments.

Role Description

  • The Head of Personal E&I Operations reports to the Head of Risk Operations with responsibility for all aspects of the Personal Affairs and Personal E&I teams including strategy, people management, budgets/work force planning and service delivery.
  • The right candidate will provide strong consistent leadership, management and guidance to the Personal Affairs and Personal E&I teams at all levels to ensure a professional, high standard of service and quality is delivered which always reflects and supports business needs.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Risk Operations lead, showcase and implement all opportunities which promote cross OEH collaboration and customer service effectiveness.
  • Client relationship management: Develop and manage close relationships with key internal and external stakeholders (providing regular briefings to Directors and Partners) to ensure seamless and innovative delivery across Risk Operations.
  • Provide deputy cover for Head of ROG as Operational lead representing Risk Operations, ensure that the needs of both the business and operational stakeholders are met and challenged accordingly to ensure operations strategy is adhered to.
  • Where required, lead forums for all ROG to share knowledge and collaborate (e.g. monthly governance meetings).
  • Input to the preparation of annual and interim ROG/OEH budgets, approving expenditure within the levels defined by the role. Review and manage budgets thereafter to ensure all services are delivered within these.
  • Provide thought leadership and demonstrate innovative thinking in the development of Risk Operations initiatives in an agile environment designed to improve services and/or value for money.
  • Performance Leader for the Personal Affairs and Personal E&I teams which consist of but not limited to; driving and encouraging the coaching and developing of staff to maximise their potential, thus ensuring optimum levels of competence and career progression; promote and encourage both short and long-term secondments and lateral moves across OEH.
  • Input to ROG Operational elements of the annual Business Plan ensuring that service standards and objectives are met.
  • Undertake ad-hoc projects as directed by the Head of Risk Operations/Partner of OEH and any other duties which may reasonably be deemed to come within the scope of the post.

The Person

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrable extensive experience of leading Operational teams, preferably Personal Affairs and/or Personal E&I establishing/managing effective risk processes (e.g. process improvement, technical skills).
  • Passionate about and significant involvement in driving operational improvement and innovating processes to achieve better outcomes, more efficiently.
  • Experience of leading and having accountability for a large and multi-locational department (both multiple locations in the UK and an offshore team) of colleagues some of which are relatively junior.
  • A strong leadership track record including the management of teams in a virtual environment.
  • Strong influencing and complex stakeholder management skills across all levels of KPMG and a dedication to excellent customer service delivery.
  • Must be able to deal with sensitivities relating to risk and the political nature of the role.
  • Proven ability to manage a substantial budget with effective accountability.
  • Ability to quickly understand the KPMG and KBS strategy and governance to operate effectively.
  • Prior experience in a client-facing or Quality and Risk capacity with a professional services firm is a distinct advantage.
  • A motivated team leader with a "can-do" and solutions focused attitude with strong coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Strong communication skills – able to question effectively, listen and apply judgement.
  • Strong project management skills to enable identification of required tasks and deadlines and planning and prioritisation of these tasks in an appropriate manner.
  • Client-focused approach with a passion for delivering excellence, capable of empathising with others and understanding the issues they face.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to communicate with people at all levels and build relationships.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of various Risk & Legal and related research tools and systems is an advantage.
  • Recognises the importance of continuous self and team development and actively strives to achieve this.
