What you’ll be doing:

  • Ensure that clear and concise safety documentation is presented for review, assessment and acceptance by the Licensee/Authorisee and relevant regulatory authorities in a timely manner
  • Ensure that all safety documentation produced within the Site Safety Case Team is maintained in accordance with appropriate management arrangements that are developed and deployed in accordance with relevant good practice
  • Principal point of contact with internal and external safety and regulatory authorities on matters relating to Site Safety Cases
  • Ensure that the Site Safety Case Team undertakes all activities in a manner consistent with Company Policy, Business Processes and the Quality Assurance programme
  • Ensure that sufficient project analysis is undertaken to plan work efficiently, provide project status and identify risks and mitigation features
  • Ensure that maintenance and continuous improvement of relevant elements of the Business Management System is undertaken and reflected in all Nuclear Site Safety Justification documents
  • Compliant with all health and safety requirements and qualifications for the role and position
  • Responsible for the provision of information to all stakeholders to ensure full implementation of the Site Safety Case can be achieved
  • Enable the promulgation of advice and information to departments, organisations and authorities on all issues related to the Nuclear Site Safety Justification, as relevant to their interests and to ensure that nuclear safety is not compromised
  • Facilitate, and where appropriate advise all relevant departments and authorities on, the understanding of safety case standards for nuclear facilities and services during design, construction (or modification) and commissioning
  • Promote Site Safety Case ownership across the business
  • Represent the company at internal/external meetings/committees associated with safety and regulation of nuclear sites as necessary or delegated
  • Oversight of the development and implementation of the company's Periodic Review of Safety strategy

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Extensive knowledge of the techniques and methodology used in the development of safety cases that meet relevant good practice
  • Experience of UK nuclear legislation, the nuclear industry and site licensing
  • Knowledge of the UK nuclear regulatory landscape and permission requirements
  • Extensive experience in managing the production of safety cases in practice
  • Experience in leading specialist teams and the provision of advice to influence senior stakeholders
  • Membership of a relevant professional institute

Desirable:

  • Experience of authorisation and environmental permitting and associated industry guidance

Our Nuclear Site Safety Case Team:

As a Principal Engineering Manager, you will have overall responsibility to lead a team of managers, safety engineers, specialist contractors and project engineers to define and deliver the Nuclear Site Safety Justification programme of work, and to manage the production of the resulting Site Safety Cases and supporting documentation.

You will act as the senior business Subject Matter Expert (SME) and Intelligent Customer (IC) Point of Contact for safety cases and set the strategic direction and oversight of arrangements for the development and deployment of effective Site Safety Cases that meet legislative/contractual requirements and relevant good practice to support the safe execution of delivery Programmes.
