An exciting opportunity has arisen in Elsevier’s Data Monitor team, which is responsible for helping institutions keep track of their institutional research data output by integrating 27 million research data records from 2000+ generalist and domain-specific repositories. Data Monitor empowers the university library and research office to stay up to date with research data sharing habits of researchers from their institutions and make informed decisions regarding Research Data Management.

What to do:

As a Software Engineer II, you'll be involved in the design and software development assignments within Data Monitor team, providing direct input to the development of our cross-functional software product.

In this position you'll be involved and perform moderate software design and contributing to the development of our backend services.

Experience and Education

  • 1+ years of Software Engineering experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Write and review portions of detailed specifications for the development of system components of moderate complexity.
  • Complete simple bug fixes.
  • Work closely with other development team members to understand product requirements and translate them into software designs.
  • Operate in an Agile development environment while collaborating with key stakeholders.
  • Keep abreast of modern technology developments.
  • Have a great level of team spirit!

Essential experience:

  • Basic knowledge of software development methodologies (e.g. Agile, Scrum, Kanban, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of test-driven development
  • Basic knowledge about software building process and cloud platforms (or equivalent, Azzure, GCP)
  • Proficiency in Java development language (or equivalent, such C#, Javascript, Python)
  • Knowledge of data storage systems (relational databases or NoSql)
  • Ability and desire to learn new processes and technologies.
  • Basic oral and written communication skills.
