Job Description

The Internal Communications Team is the engine room for communications across Sainsbury’s business, brands and channels, owning the communication of our strategy, priorities and progress and telling everyone across the business what they need to know.

As Senior Events Manager – Internal Communications, you will develop and deliver engaging and informative internal events. Working with the Operating Board and senior leaders you will deliver events for populations including Retail Store Managers, top leadership and Sainsbury’s Bank, generally in a virtual format.

You will drive the events planning process, ensuring every event has a clear purpose and ladders up to our five strategic priorities. You’ll work with project teams to devise agendas, bringing a creative approach to our event formats that supports our objectives and engages our audiences.

Working closely with the wider Internal Communications team, you’ll ensure there is a clear and timely cascade plan following all of our events that is clearly communicated to leaders.

You’ll create a clear feedback mechanism for every event, gathering both qualitative and quantitative data and presenting the findings and recommendations to key stakeholders to drive the approach to future events.

What you need to do

  • You will lead on events planning, supported by a team of two Events managers. This will include preparing proposals to present to senior leaders, shortlisting and agreeing venues (where relevant) and project managing event delivery, working with agencies where appropriate.
  • You will build excellent relationships with a large number of stakeholders for each event to co-ordinate the development of content, all with a consistent and compelling story.
  • You will bring a strong understanding of virtual events formats and work closely with the Tech team to ensure events are delivered effectively and reliably.
  • You’ll be a core part of the Internal Communications team, staying close to upcoming communications plans and how they play into upcoming events, ensuring the onward cascade is core to your plans and working with the wider team on engaging content, such as video, where relevant.
  • You will develop feedback reports and recommendations for each event and ensure this feeds into the broader Internal Communications reporting framework.

What you need to know and show

  • Highly organised and proactive – able to juggle and prioritise a busy agenda and respond calmly and quickly to changing situations and a level of ambiguity
  • Collaborative approach, with the ability to build strong relationships within the Corporate Affairs team and the wider business, including leaders
  • Solid experience delivering multiple large scale and high profile events on time and on budget
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and strong attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Excellent team management skills and the ability to lead and influence others to deliver
  • Action-orientated with high energy, pace, agility and pragmatism
  • Understanding of digital communication tools, e.g. Microsoft Teams Live, Yammer

In return you'll get

As a Senior Events Manager – Internal Communications, you’ll receive a host of great benefits. As well as a competitive salary, you will receive a huge range of learning and development opportunities, 26 days holiday, a save-as-you-earn scheme, pension and staff discounts at Argos, Sainsbury’s and Habitat.

We trust them to decide how, where and when they work, combining remote and collaborative working with a flexible approach to hours, giving them plenty of time and space for life outside of work whilst delivering against our business goals.
