Engineering Project Manager

About the Role

This is an extremely exciting opportunity for the right person, giving you the opportunity to work with ground breaking new technologies and flourish in one of the UK’s most important Defence projects.

Working with the Chief Engineer, Systems Architecture Lead, and the Programme Manager, you will lead and coordinate the definition of engineering bases-of-estimates, schedules, risk and opportunity for the programme. As part of this vital role, it is essential to ensure that the engineering programme is fully defined, priced, and is deliverable to cost, schedule, and scope.

The role will include conducting both regular and ad-hoc briefings and programmatic / technical meetings for representatives in UK and US.

Day to day responsibilities include:

• Identify engineering scope and produce estimates to deliver it.
• Gather inputs for resource and schedule planning.
• Be responsible for the cost, schedule and technical performance of the IPT.
• Work with and manage the applicable engineering teams to deliver their programme deliverables on time and to budget.
• Liaise effectively at all levels up to and including Executive level to ensure key programme goals and milestones are achieved.
• Ensure programme risks are identified and managed effectively.
• Provide strategic and tactical leadership within the Engineering teams to ensure successful, integrated support and performance to the programme.
• Support the delivery and achievement of Programme Payment and Mission Success Milestones being achieved on schedule.
• Produces metrics to report project status upwards.

Required skills, qualifications and experience

Required skills and experience:

• An established leader with a proven, successful track record of achievement.
• Substantial experience leading BoE generation for large and complex programmes.
• Experience capturing, managing, and mitigating programme risks, and the identification and realization of programme opportunities.
• Experience capturing and documenting engineering assumptions, exclusions, and dependencies.
• Ability to establish and maintain excellent relationships with stakeholders throughout LM (e.g. PMs, SPMs, Finance, Commercial, Legal, Engineering).
