Zurich Benelux Insurance is currently looking for a Junior Actuary to strengthen our actuarial team in our office in The Hague or Zaventem. In this role you will work on the reserving, valuation, pricing or risk management process for the assigned portfolio and provide support and recommendations to the relevant senior actuary or Head of Pricing and actuarial business partners including insights into risks, underlying performance and implications for the business

Key Accountabilities

As a Junior Actuary, you

  • Prepare and perform pricing analyses including trends, to drive portfolio and risk level profitability, and support strategic direction of the organization
  • Liaise with relevant functional stakeholders, to continuously monitor and provide insights into underwriting performance and implications for the business
  • Balance pricing and reserving views on performance to ensure cross functional alignment and challenge where warranted
  • Influence and collaborate with Underwriting on strategic portfolio and individual account pricing decisions
  • Assist in training the Underwriting community and other stakeholders

Other accountabilities (in close collaboration with senior actuary)are to

  • Ensure that data, methodology and processes used in analyses are fit for purpose
  • Ensure that processes and standards are consistent with internal actuarial policies; lead the improvement of systems and processes in own area.
  • Monitor and guide quality of relevant data, working cross functionally to ensure required quality and granularity is available for analyses
  • Ensure awareness of profitability measures and business dynamics throughout relevant parts of the organization
  • Provide informed actuarial recommendations based on professional judgment and experience


  • Bachelor’s or master’ degree (or equivalent) in Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering or Mathematics/Statistics
  • Qualified or nearly Qualified with local actuarial body
  • Dutch/Flamish and/or French and English language spoken and written at a high level
  • Knowledge of the actuarial pricing concepts and good understanding of the actuarial reserving concepts
  • Good knowledge of statistics and actuarial modelling
  • Proficient with Excel, MS office suite and preferably programming languages such as R, VBA, etc
  • Excellent communication skills

This role will be based in The Netherlands or Belgium and you will have to occasionally travel to our office in Brussels.
