The assignment

High performance motion stages with multiple degrees of freedom often have flex cables and hoses routed between the static and moving part, to supply e.g. communication with sensors and cooling water for linear motors. These cables cause dynamic disturbances in the system, since they must be compliant in the bending direction so as not to counteract the movement, but therefore have low-frequency internal eigenmodes. The goal of this thesis is to investigate the behavior of such cables and develop a compensation strategy for the motion control system.
